The 2023–24 National First Division (called the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons) is the season from September 2023 to June 2024 of South Africa's second tier of professional soccer, the National First Division. Magesi gained an automatic promotion to 2024-25 DSTV Premiership League after defeating Milford by 3 goals to 1 with 2 matches on hand on 05 May 2024. National First Division
The National First Division (NFD), officially known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest league of South African club football after the South African Premier Division. Both the NFD and South African Premier Division are organised by the Premier Soccer League. Structure and rules Seasons 2007–2011 The restructured NFD was divided into two streams, one inland and another coastal – each of which consisted of 8 teams. The winners of the two streams played against each other in a 'final' at the end of the season – the winner of which was promoted to the PSL. The loser of the 'final' played in a mini-tournament/play-offs against the two second-placed teams in each stream and the 15th-placed team on the PSL log. The winner of this tournament was also be automatically promoted to the top flight. Upington ( Nama: //Khara hais) is a town founded in 1873 and located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, on the banks of the Orange River. The town was originally called Olijvenhoutsdrift ('Olive wood drift'), due to the abundance of olive wood trees in the area, but later renamed after Sir Thomas Upington, Attorney-General and then Prime Minister of the Cape. It originated as a mission station established in 1871 and run by Reverend Christiaan Schröder. The mission station now houses the Kalahari Orange Museum. 2022–23 SAFA Second Division
The 2022–23 SAFA Second Division (known as the ABC Motsepe League for sponsorship reasons) was the 25th season of the SAFA Second Division, the third tier for South African association football clubs, since its establishment in 1998. Due to the size of South Africa, the competition was split into nine divisions, one for each region. After the league stage of the regional competition was completed, the nine winning teams of each regional division entered the playoffs. Upington City from the Northern Cape, and Orbit College from the North West qualified for the final, with both earning promotion to the 2023–24 National First Division. Upington City defeated Orbit College 3-1 in the final, with Upington City taking R1.2 million in prize money, and Orbit R600,000.
