Slovak National Party
The Slovak National Party ( sk, Slovenská národná strana, SNS) is a nationalist political party in Slovakia. The party characterizes itself as a nationalist party based on both social and the European Christian values. Since 1990 SNS has won seats in every Slovak parliament but three (in 2002, 2012 and 2020) and has been part of the government from 2006 to 2010. Parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in Slovakia on 30 September 2023 to elect members of the National Council (Slovakia), National Council. The 2020 Slovak parliamentary election resulted in a Matovič Cabinet, coalition government led by the Ordinary People and Independent Personalities movement. On 15 December 2022 the Slovak government lost a no-confidence vote, and a snap election in 2023 was demanded by the President of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová, and the opposition. Turkey is negotiating its accession to the European Union (EU) as a member state, following its application to become a full member of the European Economic Community (EEC), the predecessor of the EU, on 14 April 1987. After the ten founding members in 1949, Turkey became one of the first new members ( the 13th member) of the Council of Europe in 1950. The country became an associate member of the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1963 and was an associate member of the Western European Union from 1992 to its end in 2011. Fit for 55 is a package by the European Union designed to reduce the European Union's greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030. The package was proposed in July 2021 by the European Commission. Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism
The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a carbon tariff on carbon intensive products, such as cement and some electricity, imported by the European Union. Currently being legislated as part of the European Green Deal it will to take effect in 2026 with reporting starting in 2023. The CBAM was passed with 450 votes for, 115 against and 55 abstentions. The price of CBAM certificates would be linked to price of EU allowances under the European Union Emissions Trading System and it is designed to stem carbon leakage from countries without a carbon price.
