2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held in Antwerp, Belgium at the Sportpaleis, from 30 September to 8 October 2023. Antwerp hosted the event for the third time; previously the city hosted the first ever World Championships in 1903 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, 1903 and again in 2013 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, 2013. The championships was a Gymnastics at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Qualification, qualification event for the 2024 Summer Olympics, 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The top nine teams in both the men's and women's team qualifications (not including teams that 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships#Olympic qualification, qualified at the previous year's World Championships) obtained five quota places for Paris as a team. World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for artistic gymnastics governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). The first edition of the championships was held in 1903, exclusively for male gymnasts. Since the tenth edition of the tournament, in 1934, women's events are held together with men's events. The FIG was founded in 1881 and was originally entitled FEG (Fédération Européenne de Gymnastique), but changed its name in 1921, becoming the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG); this name change roughly correlates with the actual naming of the World Championships. Although the first such games were held in 1903, they were not initially entitled the 'World Championships'. 2023 African Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 2023 African Artistic Gymnastics Championships was the 17th iteration of the event. It took place on 26–27 May in Pretoria, South Africa. The competition served as qualification for the 2023 World Championships. Ilias Georgiou is a Greek Cypriot male artistic gymnast, representing his nation in international competitions. Career As a junior he competed for Cyprus in the 2016 European Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in the all-around final. Sofus Heggemsnes (born 13 July 1999) is a Norwegian artistic gymnast who competed at the 2017, 2018, and 2019 World Championships. He represented Norway at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He is a four-time Northern European champion, as well as a World Cup bronze medalist. Early life Heggemsnes was born in Oslo, Norway to a Swedish father of Jamaican and Trinidadian descent, and a Norwegian mother who was born in California. Karl Oskar Kirmes (born 19 December 1995, Reykjavik, Iceland) is a Finnish male artistic gymnast representing his nation in international competitions. Robert Tvorogal (born 5 October 1994) is a Lithuanian artistic gymnast. He is the 2019 European Games champion on the horizontal bar. He became the first Lithuanian to win a gold medal at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships when he won the horizontal bar title at the 2020 European Championships.
