2023 Vilnius Summit
The 2023 Vilnius summit was a NATO summit which took place from 11–12 July 2023, in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. The summit was officially proposed during the 2022 Madrid summit and its dates were fixed on 9 November 2022. In the summit, world leaders discussed the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine as well as Ukraine and Sweden's prospective memberships into NATO. Background The summit was held in the context of an ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. In his January 2023 address to the Lithuanian Parliament, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the summit as fateful. Ukraine expressed the desire to be formally invited to NATO at the Vilnius summit. On 8 July 2023, US President Joe Biden said that Ukraine is not ready to join NATO at that time. LITEXPO
LITEXPO (from Lithuanian exposition) or Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre ( lt, Lietuvos parodų ir kongresų centras) is the largest exhibition centre in the Baltic states located in Vilnius, Lithuania. History LITEXPO organizes over twenty international exhibitions annually, including Resta (construction fair) and Vilnius Book Fair. It also organizes conferences and other special events. Member States Of NATO
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is an international military alliance that consists of 30 member states from Europe and North America. It was established at the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty on 4 April 1949. Article 5 of the treaty states that if an armed attack occurs against one of the member states, it shall be considered an attack against all members, and other members shall assist the attacked member, with armed forces if necessary. Article 6 of the treaty limits the scope of Article 5 to the islands north of the Tropic of Cancer, the North American and European mainlands, the entirety of Turkey, and French Algeria.
