2023 Summit League Baseball Tournament
The 2023 Summit League baseball tournament took place from May 24 through 27, 2023. The top four out of seven teams in the conference's regular season will meet in the double-elimination tournament held at Newman Outdoor Field on the campus of North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. The defending champion was Oral Roberts, who successfully defended their title and earned the Summit League's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. Summit League
The Summit League, or The Summit, is an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic conference with its membership mostly located in the Midwestern United States from Illinois on the East of the Mississippi River to the Dakotas and Nebraska on the West, with additional members in the Western state of Colorado and the Southern state of Oklahoma. Founded as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities in 1982, it rebranded as the Mid-Continent Conference in 1989, then again as the Summit League on June 1, 2007. Summit League Baseball Tournament
The Summit League baseball tournament is the conference baseball championship of the NCAA Division I's Summit League. The top four finishers in the regular season of the conference's seven teams advance to the double-elimination tournament, which in 2024 will return to J. L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The league changed its name from the Mid-Continent Conference prior to the 2008 season. The Western Illinois Leathernecks baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, United States. The program's first season was in 1948, and it has been a member of the NCAA Division I Summit League since the start of the 1985 season. Its home venue is Alfred D. Northern Colorado Bears Baseball
Northern Colorado Bears baseball is the varsity intercollegiate team representing University of Northern Colorado in the sport of college baseball in NCAA Division I. The team is led by Mike Anderson, and plays its home games at Jackson Field on campus in Greeley, Colorado. The Bears are baseball members of the Summit League, having joined in July 2021 after spending the previous eight years as baseball members of the Western Athletic Conference. Prior to the 1968 establishment of what is now the NCAA Division II baseball tournament, the Bears reached the College World Series nine times, and reached the CWS again in 1974 at the Division I level for a total of ten appearances, compiling a record of 3–20. 2023 North Dakota State Bison Baseball Team
The 2023 North Dakota State Bison baseball team represented North Dakota State University during the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Bison played their home games at Newman Outdoor Field adjacent to NDSU's campus. The team was coached by second year head coach Tyler Oakes. NDSU made the Summit League tournament as the second seed. They lost in the opening round to South Dakota State, survived elimination once with a win over Omaha, but lost to South Dakota State again to be eliminated on day 3 for the second year in a row. The Bison finished the season with a 23–30 overall record with a 16–7 record in Summit League play. 2023 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2023 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was the 76th edition of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The 64-team tournament began on Friday, June 2, as part of the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball season and ended with the 2023 Men's College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, which began on June 16 and ended on June 26. LSU defeated Florida in the best-of-three final series to win their seventh national championship in program history. The 64 participating NCAA Division I college baseball teams were selected from an eligible 300 teams. 30 teams were awarded automatic bids as champions of their conferences, and 34 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. Newman Outdoor Field
Newman Outdoor Field is a baseball stadium in Fargo, North Dakota. It is located on the campus of North Dakota State University and is the home of the independent American Association's Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and the North Dakota State Bison baseball team. The 4,172 seat facility opened in 1996. In 1998, naming rights were sold to Newman Outdoor Advertising for $1.5 million. Fargo based architect firm R.L. Engebretson P.C. worked on the design with RedHawks GM John Dittrich and Assistant GM Tim Flakoll and City of Fargo leaders. The stadium contained the Maury Wills Museum in honor of the former Major League Baseball player who worked for the RedHawks as a coach and a radio analyst until the conclusion of the 2017 Season.
