2023 Louisiana House Of Representatives Election
The 2023 Louisiana House of Representatives election was held on October 14, 2023, with runoff elections held on November 18, 2023. All 105 seats in the Louisiana House of Representatives were up for election to four-year terms. It was held concurrently with elections for all statewide offices and the Louisiana State Senate. Under Louisiana's jungle primary system, all candidates appear on the same ballot, regardless of party, and voters may vote for any candidate, regardless of their party affiliation. Background In the 2019 state legislature elections, Republicans expanded their majorities in both chambers to 68 in the House and 27 in the Senate. The Louisiana House of Representatives (french: link=no, Chambre des Représentants de Louisiane) is the lower house in the Louisiana State Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Louisiana. This chamber is composed of 105 representatives, each of whom represents approximately 42,500 people (2000 figures). Members serve four-year terms with a term limit of three terms (twelve years). Cedric Bradford Glover (born August 9, 1965) is a Democratic Party politician who is a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing District 4. He was earlier the two-term mayor of Shreveport, Louisiana, the first African-American to hold that position. Outgoing Mayor Keith Hightower was term-limited in 2006, after having won election in both 1998 and 2002. Alonzo Knox is an American politician and businessman serving as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for the 93rd district. He assumed office on March 25, 2023. Early life and education Knox was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and graduated from Glen Oaks High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and law enforcement from Southern University and a Master of Business Administration from Trinity Washington University. The Louisiana State Senate (french: Sénat de Louisiane) is the upper house of the state legislature of Louisiana. All senators serve four-year terms and are assigned to multiple committees.
