2023 Fast5 Netball World Series
The 2023 Fast5 Netball World Series was the 11th Fast5 Netball World Series. New Zealand national netball team, New Zealand hosted Australia national netball team, Australia, England national netball team, England, Jamaica national netball team, Jamaica, Malawi national netball team, Malawi and South Africa national netball team, South Africa in a series, played in November 2023, at Christchurch's Wolfbrook Arena. The series also featured a 2023 Men's Fast5 Netball World Series, men's tournament. With a team coached by Nicole Richardson and captained by Matilda Garrett, Australia won the series after defeating New Zealand 35–23 in the final. England finished the series in third place. The series was broadcast live on Sky Sport (New Zealand), Sky Sport in New Zealand and on SuperSport (South African broadcaster), SuperSport in South Africa. Georgia Heffernan is a New Zealand netball international. Since 2018, she has played for Southern Steel. Her mother, Annette Heffernan, her aunt, Maxine Blomquist, her sister, Kate Heffernan and a cousin, Shirley Langrope, are all New Zealand netball internationals. Her mother and aunt were the first set of sisters to play international netball for New Zealand. At the 2024 Netball Nations Cup, herself and her sister became the third set. Towera Vinkhumbo (born 14 February 1991), also referred to as Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda or Towera Nyirenda, is a Malawi netball international and a Malawi women's football international. As a netball player she represented Malawi at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011, 2015 and 2019 Netball World Cups. Vinkhumbo was also a member of the Malawi team that finished third at the 2016 Fast5 Netball World Series. At club level, Vinkhumbo plays for Strathclyde Sirens in the Netball Superleague. Loreen Ngwira also spelt as Laureen Ngwira (born 25 May 1993) is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi in the positions of GD and GK. Career Loreen has represented Malawi at the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and 2018 where Malawi finished at fifth and seventh positions respectively. She also took part in two Netball World Cup tournaments including the 2015 World Netball Championships and 2019 Netball World Cup where Malawi finished at sixth position in each occasions. Thandie Galleta (born 27 January 1993) is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi national netball team, Malawi in the positions of WA or C. She has played in two Commonwealth Games and in 2025 she was an experienced member of the squad. Joyce Mvula (born 15 April 1994) is a Malawian netball player and winner of two Netball Superleague titles. Domestic career Mvula started playing netball at age 13 and became the first Malawian to play in the Netball Superleague after she was picked up by Manchester Thunder following the Netball World Cup in 2015. She has paved the way for a number of Malawian players to join the Superleague. Mvula played for Manchester Thunder for 6 years from 2017 until 2022, winning titles in 2019 and 2022. Romelda Aiken-George (néé Aiken) (born 19 November 1988) is a Jamaican netball player. Aiken debuted for the Jamaica national team in 2005 as a replacement for regular shooter Elaine Davis. The shooter rose to international prominence during the 2007 Netball World Championships. She had her senior debut with the England national netball team in October 2018 in the Sunshine Series against Jamaica.
