2023 Championship League (ranking)
The 2023 Championship League was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place from 26 June to 21 July 2023 at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, England. The event featured 128 players and was played as three rounds of Round-robin tournament, round-robin groups of four, before a best-of-five final. It was the fourth edition of the ranking version of the Championship League, and the first ranking tournament of the 2023–24 snooker season, 202324 season. Luca Brecel was the reigning champion, having defeated Lu Ning 31 in the final of the 2022 Championship League (ranking), previous ranking edition of the tournament. However, he opted not to enter the draw for the tournament and consequently was not defending the title. Championship League
Championship League (officially the BetVictor Championship League Snooker) is a professional snooker tournament devised by Matchroom Sport. The event was introduced in 2008 Championship League, 2008 as an invitational qualifier to the Premier League Snooker series, where there is no audience and matches are played behind closed doors, and has since kept the unique format despite the discontinuation of the Premier League in 2012. It is one of the only tournaments that is not directly sanctioned by the World Snooker Tour along with the Champion of Champions (snooker), Champion of Champions. The tournament was originally held at the Crondon Park Golf Club in Stock, Essex until 2016 and has since been held in Coventry, Barnsley, Milton Keynes and currently in Leicester. Lu Ning
Lu Ning (; born 1 January 1994 in Jilin) is a former professional snooker player from the People's Republic of China who, in 2023, was banned from professional competition for five years and four months after committing match-fixing offences. In December 2022, Lu was suspended from the professional tour amid a match-fixing investigation. In January 2023, he was charged with being concerned in fixing matches and approaching players to fix matches, seeking to obstruct a WPBSA investigation, and betting on snooker matches. Following an independent disciplinary tribunal, Lu was banned from professional snooker until 6 April 2028. Career Lu's first appearance in a ranking tournament was in the wildcard round of the 2012 World Open, where he defeated 1996 British Open winner Nigel Bond 5–4 in Haikou. Michael Holt (snooker Player)
Michael Holt (born 7 August 1978) is an English professional snooker player from Nottingham. A former world Top 20 player, he won one ranking event – the 2020 Snooker Shoot Out – and two minor-ranking tournaments. He was runner-up at two ranking events – the 2016 Riga Masters and the 2019 Snooker Shoot Out. Holt also reached the semi-finals of the 2013 Shanghai Masters as well as five other quarter-finals. Steven Hallworth
Steven Hallworth (born 1 December 1995) is an English professional snooker player. He is the only ever qualified professional from Lincoln. He is a practice partner of Stuart Carrington. Career Junior Hallworth started playing snooker aged 10 after trying pool on a family holiday. He then found success in junior and amateur levels and was given the opportunity to play future World Champion Mark Selby aged 12 in 2009, after winning that year's Under-17 Lincoln and District Billiards and Snooker Association crown. World Snooker Tour
The World Snooker Tour (WST) is the main professional snooker tour, consisting of about 128 players competing on a circuit of up to 28 tournaments each season. It is administered by World Snooker Ltd, the commercial arm of professional snooker, first formed in 1982 as the commercial arm of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA). It is also the organiser of most of the events throughout the professional circuit, including the prestigious World Snooker Championship. 2023 Champion Of Champions
The 2023 Champion of Champions (officially the 2023 Cazoo Champion of Champions) was a professional snooker tournament that took between 13 and 19 November 2023 at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in Bolton, England. The 13th edition of the Champion of Champions since the tournament was first staged in 1978, it featured 16 participants, primarily winners of significant tournaments since the previous year's event. As an invitational tournament, it carried no world ranking points. It immediately followed the 2023 International Championship which ended on 12 November. The winner received £150,000 from a total prize fund of £440,000. Ronnie O'Sullivan was the defending champion, having defeated Judd Trump in the previous final. Mark Allen (born 22 February 1986) is a Northern Irish professional snooker player from Antrim. He won the European and World Amateur Championship in 2004 and turned professional in 2005. Allen entered the world top 16 after only three seasons.
