2023 Budapest Formula 3 Round
The 2023 Budapest Formula 3 round was a motor racing event held between 21 and 23 July at the Hungaroring, Mogyoród, Hungary. It was the seventh round of the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship, and was held in support of the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. Driver changes Prior to the round at the Hungaroring, PHM Racing by Charouz announced that GB3 racer Woohyun Shin had taken over McKenzy Cresswell's seat for the rest of the season. Classification Qualifying Notes: * - Jonny Edgar received a 5-second penalty for causing a collision with Caio Collet at Silverstone, which carried over and got converted into a 3-place grid penalty for the sprint race here. * - Nikola Tsolov received a 3-place grid penalty for the feature race for causing a collision with Pepe Martí in the sprint race. * - Caio Collet, Rafael Villagómez and Tommy Smith received a 5-place grid penalty for the feature race for Van Amersfoort Racing not bringing their tyres to Parc Ferme after sprint race. Hungaroring
The Hungaroring is a motorsport racetrack in Mogyoród, Pest County, Hungary where the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix is held. In 1986, it became the location of the first Formula One Grand Prix behind the Iron Curtain. Bernie Ecclestone wanted a race in the USSR, but a Hungarian friend recommended Budapest. They wanted a street circuit similar to the Circuit de Monaco to be built in the Népliget – Budapest's largest park – but the government decided to build a new circuit just outside the city near a major highway. Construction works started on 1 October 1985. It was built in eight months, less time than any other Formula One circuit. The first race was held on 24 March 1986, in memory of János Drapál, the first Hungarian who won motorcycle Grand Prix races. Woohyun Shin
Michael Shin (, ''Shin Woo-hyun''; born 23 August 2004), also known as Woohyun Shin, is a South Korean racing driver who is set to compete in the 2024 Formula Regional Oceania Championship with M2 Competition, having recently competed in the GB3 Championship with Hitech Grand Prix. He previously competed in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with PHM Racing by Charouz. He made his competitive racing debut in the 2022 Formula 4 UAE Championship with JHR Developments, and competed in the 2022 F4 British Championship. The following year, he competed in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship with Prema Racing, and the GB3 Championship with Hitech Grand Prix, before making his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship later in the year with PHM Racing by Charouz. Mari Boya
José María Navalón Boya (born 13 April 2004), better known as Mari Boya, is a Spanish racing driver, who is set to race for MP Motorsport in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship. He previously competed in the Formula Regional European Championship during 2021 and 2022 and was the 2020 Spanish F4 vice-champion. Career Karting career Boya started competition karting in 2015, when he won the Spanish Karting Championship, and he repeated the same feat again in 2016. He won the championship again in 2018, this time in the Junior class, and came out victorious in the IAME Winter Cup that same year. The Spaniard stayed in karts until early 2020. Grégoire Saucy
Grégoire Saucy (born 26 December 1999) is a Swiss racing driver and the current champion of the Formula Regional European Championship. He will race with ART Grand Prix in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship. Josep Maria "Pepe" Martí Sobrepera (born 13 June 2005) is a Spanish racing driver who most recently raced in the FIA Formula 3 for Campos Racing. He is a race winner in the UAE and Spanish Formula 4 championships, and also the 2022 Formula Regional Asian Championship runner-up. Career Karting Martí started karting competitively in late 2016 at the age of eleven. In 2018 he was signed by Tony Kart, and the following year he won the Spanish Karting Championship in the Junior category, driving for Fernando Alonso's team. He then went on to finish 7th in the OK class of the CIK-FIA Karting World Championship in 2020, his last year of karting, with Kart Republic. Gabriele Minì
Gabriele Minì (born 20 March 2005) is an Italian racing driver who is scheduled to race in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship with Hitech Grand Prix. He is the 2020 Italian F4 Champion, and was runner-up during the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship. Career Karting Minì started his karting career in 2012. His first karting title came in the Italian Championship in 2017 in the 60 Mini Class at the age of 12. The year after Minì mainly competed in international competitions, becoming champion in the WSK Super Master Series, beating Mercedes Academy driver Paul Aron among others, and finishing as runner-up in the CIK-FIA Karting World Championship. Campos Racing
Campos Racing is a Spanish motor racing team, founded by former Formula One driver Adrián Campos. The team has been successful in Formula Three and the GP2 Series. History After retiring from racing, Campos formed his own team at the end of 1997, under the name Campos Motorsport. In 1998 the team began by competing in the new Open Fortuna by Nissan, with Marc Gené and Antonio García as drivers. Gené won the championship and García finished fifth, with Campos taking the teams title. Gené stepped up to Formula One in , and his place in the team was taken by karting driver Fernando Alonso. Christian Mansell (born 9 February 2005) is an Australian racing driver set to compete in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship with Campos Racing. He previously competed in the 2022 Euroformula Open Championship for CryptoTower Racing, finishing in third overall in the standings. Jonny Edgar (born 13 February 2004) is an English racing driver currently set to race in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship for MP Motorsport. He is a member of the Red Bull Junior Team and is the 2020 ADAC Formula 4 champion. Career Karting Born in Whitehaven, Edgar started his career in 2012, being in the fourth generation of Edgars to practice motor racing. Edgar began his karting career with Fusion Motorsport in Britain, finishing second in the Super 1 National Championship just three years after his debut. He also won the SKUSA SuperNationals that year, driving for Team Benik. ART Grand Prix is a French motor racing team that competes in formula single-seaters in Europe. In 2012, it competed in the GP2 Series and GP3 Series as Lotus GP to reflect sponsorship from British sports and racing car manufacturer Lotus. The team competed as Lotus ART in 2011. Nikola Tsolov ( bg, Никола Цолов, born 21 December 2006) is a Bulgarian racing driver who is the current champion of the F4 Spanish Championship and a member of the Alpine Affiliate programme. Paul Aron
Paul Aron (born 4 February 2004) is an Estonian racing driver currently set to race in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship with Prema Racing. He previously competed in the Formula Regional European Championship for Prema in 2021 and 2022, in which he ended both series in third. Aron is part of the Mercedes Junior Team. He also won the rookie cup in the 2019 Italian F4 Championship and placed third in the regular standings.
