2023 AFC Asian Cup Group D
Group D of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup took place from 14 to 24 January 2024. The group consisted of Japan, Indonesia, Iraq and Vietnam. The top two teams, Iraq and Japan, along with third-placed Indonesia (as one of the four best third-placed teams), advanced to the round of 16. Teams Notes Standings Matches Japan vs Vietnam This was the thirteenth meeting between the sides and the sixth since Vietnam's reunification, with their most recent encounter coming during 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification, with Vietnam drawing 1–1 Japan away. Japan had won four out of five previous meetings, but three out of four of these victories were by just a one-goal margin; Japan's biggest win occurred back during the 2007 Asian Cup when they beat the tournament co-hosts 4–1. 2023 AFC Asian Cup
The 2023 AFC Asian Cup will be the 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup, the quadrennial international men's football championship of Asia organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). It will involve 24 national teams after expansion in 2019, with Qatar as the defending champions. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in China from 16 June to 16 July 2023. On 14 May 2022, the AFC announced that China would not host the tournament due to the circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and China's Zero-COVID policy. On 17 October, the AFC announced that the tournament will be held in Qatar. Qatar will become the first country to host three Asian Cups, after 1988 and 2011. Due to the high summer temperatures in the Gulf region, the tournament will probably be postponed from mid-2023 to early 2024. West Asian Football Federation
The West Asian Football Federation (WAFF; ar, اتحاد غرب آسيا لكرة القدم, Ittiḥād Gharb Āsiyā li-Kurat al-Qadam), founded in 2001, is an association of the football playing nations in Western Asia. Its founding members are Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria. In 2009, three more associations joined the federation: Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Four other nations of Western Asia: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia joined in 2010. Iran left the federation on 10 June 2014 with the creation of the Central Asian Football Federation. They organize the West Asian Football Federation Championship. Some nations were invited to participate in the competition from outside the region. Phạm Tuấn Hải (born 19 May 1998) is a Vietnamese professional footballer who plays as a forward or a winger for V.League 1 club Hà Nội and the Vietnam national team. is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Belgian Pro League club Sint-Truiden. Born in the United States, he represents the Japan national team. Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh (born 1 January 1999) is a Vietnamese professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for V.League 1 club Công An Hà Nội and the Vietnam national team. Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh was born in Dong Hung district, Thai Binh province. Nguyễn Đình Bắc (born 19 August 2004) is a Vietnamese professional footballer who plays as a left winger or a striker for V.League 1 club Quảng Nam, and the Vietnam national team.
