2022–23 Liga FPD
The 2022–23 Liga FPD was the 102nd season since of the Liga FPD, the highest tier of football in Costa Rica. The season was divided into two halves: the Apertura, which was played from 17 July 2022 to 5 November 2022, and the Clausura, which was played from 14 January 2023 to 28 May 2023. Saprissa won the 2022 Apertura, while Alajuelense won the 2023 Clausura. Saprissa won the Grand Final, defeating Alajuelense 3–2 on aggregate. Liga FPD
The Primera División of Costa Rica, commonly known as Liga de Fútbol de Primera División (Liga FPD), and Liga Promerica for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional association football division in Costa Rica. It is administered by the Unión de Clubes de Fútbol de la Primera División (UNAFUT). The league consists of 12 teams, with the last-placed team relegated to the Liga de Ascenso. The league was founded in 1921, with Herediano crowned as the first champions. Saprissa is the most successful club having won the championship a record 40 times. Together with Alajuelense (31 titles) and Herediano (30 titles), they have dominated the league. Competition format The Liga FPD features a format in which two separate tournaments are held over the course of one particular season. Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá
Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá is a football stadium in San Juan de Tibás, with a seating capacity of 23,112, making it the second-largest stadium in the country. The stadium is the home of Deportivo Saprissa, and was named in honor of the team's founder Ricardo Saprissa. The stadium's nickname "The Monster's Cave" (La Cueva del Monstruo) is derived from the team's nickname "The Purple Monster". Liberia () is a district and the largest city in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica, located northwest of the national capital, San José.
