2022–23 Liga 1 (Indonesia)
The 2022–23 Liga 1 (also known as the 2022–23 BRI Liga 1 for sponsorship reasons) was the 6th season of Liga 1 under its current name and the 13th season of the association football, the top Indonesian professional league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2008. It started on 23 July 2022. Bali United were the two-time defending champions. Summary Following the Kanjuruhan Stadium disaster, in which at least 135 people were killed in a stampede provoked by police use of tear gas among fans who were still in the stadium, competition in all top three leagues in Indonesia were placed on hold. On 8 October 2022, FIFA recommended that matches be played no later than 17:00 local time and only on weekends to avoid risky situations in some matches. Liga 1 (), officially known as BRI Liga 1 for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top professional football division of the Indonesian football league system. Administered by PT Liga Indonesia Baru (), Liga 1 is contested by 18 clubs and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Liga 2. Top-flight professional league in Indonesia started from the 2008–09 season onwards, initially under the name Indonesia Super League until 2015. The 2021 Liga 2 was the fifth season of the Liga 2 under its current name and the 12th season under its current league structure. Persis won the title after a 2–1 win over RANS Cilegon in the final at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong on 30 December 2021. Kanjuruhan Stadium Disaster
On 1 October 2022, a fatal Crowd collapses and crushes, crowd crush occurred following an association football match at Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang Regency, East Java, Indonesia. Following a loss by home side Arema F.C., Arema to their rivals Persebaya Surabaya, around 3,000 Arema supporters pitch invasion, invaded the pitch. Police said that the rioting supporters attacked the players and the team officials. The police attempted to protect the players and stop the riot, but the crowds clashed with security forces. In response, riot police units deployed tear gas, which triggered a stampede of people in the stadium trying to escape the gas. A crush formed at one exit, resulting in fans being asphyxiation, asphyxiated. As of 24 October 2022, 135 people had lost their lives, and 583 others were injured as a result of the accident.
