2022 Northeastern Russia–Ukraine Border Skirmishes
A series of border skirmishes has taken place along the Russia–Ukraine border in Sumy Oblast, Sumy and Chernihiv Oblast, Chernihiv Oblasts since the Northern Ukraine campaign, withdrawal of Russian troops from northern Ukraine. Ukrainian officials have stated that strikes across the border happen daily. Northern Ukraine Campaign
The northern Ukraine campaign was a theater of operation in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It involved attacks by Russia across the Russo-Ukrainian and Belarusian–Ukrainian borders, beginning on 24 February 2022, for control of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and the surrounding areas of Kyiv Oblast and northern regions Zhytomyr Oblast, Sumy Oblast, and Chernihiv Oblast. Popivka (), is a village in northeastern Ukraine, located in Okhtyrka Raion of Sumy Oblast. The village is on the banks of the Vorsklytsia River, and is located on the Russian-Ukrainian Border. History The exact date of the founding of the village was never known, but is estimated to be around late 18th century. In 1917, the village was captured by the Soviet army during the Russian Civil War, becoming part of the Soviet Union. During the Holodomor in 1932–1933, almost 300 residents in the village died as a result of mass starvation.
