2022 World Series Of Darts
The 2022 World Series of Darts was a series of televised darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. Six World Series events and one finals event, which like the previous year took place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, were held. After delays in 2020 and 2021, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, three new venues made their debuts with New York City replacing Las Vegas for the US Darts Masters, and two Australian events were moved to new cities in Wollongong and Townsville. A fourth new venue was added on 11 April, with the Dutch Darts Masters making its debut at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, scheduled for 24–25 June, meaning that Amsterdam hosted two events in the 2022 World Series. Professional Darts Corporation
The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) is a professional darts organisation in the United Kingdom, established in 1992 when a group of leading players split from the British Darts Organisation (BDO) to form what was initially called the World Darts Council (WDC). Sports promoter Eddie Hearn is the PDC chairman. The PDC developed and holds several championship competitions, including the annual PDC World Darts Championship, the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, UK Open, Premier League, and Grand Slam. Gordon Mathers
Gordon Glen Mathers (born 29 September 1981) is a professional Australian darts player. He currently plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. In 2017 he finished top of the DPA Australian Pro Tour ranking table, and made his World Championship debut in the 2018 event. In the preliminary round he faced Japanese Seigo Asada, to whom he lost 1-2 in sets. In 2018, Mathers continued playing in Australia on the DPA circuit, winning a tournament in Hobart and making it to the final on two other occasions. In August he played in the Brisbane Masters, a tournament under PDC World Series of Darts, where he lost in the first round 1-6 to Raymond van Barneveld. In 2019, Mathers won two DPA tournaments in East Devonport and in April he won the Sunshine State Classic, a tournament organised by the BDO, where he defeated Jeremy Fagg in the final. AFAS Live (formerly known as the Heineken Music Hall) is a concert hall in Amsterdam, Netherlands, near the Johan Cruyff Arena. The big hall, named "Black Box" has a capacity of 6,000 and is 3000 m2; a smaller hall for after parties (Beat Box) has a capacity of 700. 2022 World Series Of Darts Finals
The 2022 Jack's World Series of Darts Finals was the eighth staging of the World Series of Darts Finals tournament, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. The tournament took place at the AFAS Live, Amsterdam, Netherlands, from 16–18 September 2022. It featured a field of 24 players. Jonny Clayton was the defending champion, after beating Dimitri Van den Bergh 11–6 in the 2021 final. However, he lost 8–11 to Dirk van Duijvenbode in the semi-finals. Gerwyn Price won his second World Series Finals title, defeating van Duijvenbode 11–10 in the final. Prize money The prize money remained the same as the previous year. Globox Arena (formerly Claudelands Arena) is a multi-purpose indoor sports and entertainment arena located in Hamilton, New Zealand. Globox Arena is part of Claudelands Events Centre which contains a 6000-capacity arena and four-star conference and exhibition centre. Wollongong Entertainment Centre (also known by its naming rights sponsor WIN Entertainment Centre and colloquially as the WEC) is a multi-purpose indoor arena, located in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre is an indoor sports arena located in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The capacity of the arena is 5,257 and was built in 1993. Tenants From 1993 until the end of the 2013–14 NBL season, the centre was the home arena of the Townsville Crocodiles basketball team. During Crocodiles games, the venue was commonly referred to as "The Swamp". Due to a downturn in attendance figures, the Crocs played at the Townsville RSL Stadium during the 2014–15 NBL season. The 2022 Viaplay Dutch Darts Masters was the first staging of the tournament by the Professional Darts Corporation, and the third entry in the 2022 World Series of Darts. The tournament featured 16 players (eight PDC players and eight Dutch qualifiers) and was held at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Netherlands on 24–25 June 2022.
