2022 World Athletics Championships – Women's 400 Metres
The women's 400 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was held at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, U.S. from 17 to 22 July 2022. Summary In the absence of defending champion, #3 all time Salwa Eid Naser due to a succession of missed drug tests, #7 and double Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Marileidy Paulino were among the handful of athletes who had broken 50 seconds in 2022. Those two were the only ones to achieve the feat in the semis, though all auto qualifiers were under 50.2. Adorned with green hair, Miller-Uibo quickly shortened the stagger between herself and Fiordaliza Cofil and then Candice McLeod to her outside. On the far outside, Lieke Klaver, Sada Williams and Paulino were doing the best to hold their position against Miller-Uibo. Lieke Klaver
Lieke Klaver (; born 20 August 1998) is a Dutch track and field athlete who competes in Sprint (running), sprinting. She specializes in the 200 metres and in the 400 metres. In the 4 × 400 metres relay, she is the 2023 World Athletics Championships – Women's 4 × 400 metres relay, 2023 World Champion and the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships – Women's 4 × 400 metres relay, 2024 World Indoor Champion with the Dutch women's team and the Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Mixed 4 × 400 metres relay, 2024 Olympic Champion with the Dutch mixed team. Marita Koch
Marita Koch (later Meier-Koch; born 18 February 1957) is a German former Sprint (running), sprint track and field athlete. During her career she set 16 List of world records in athletics, world records in outdoor sprints as well as 14 world records in indoor events. Her record of 47.60 in the 400 metres, set on 6 October 1985, still stands. Biography Born in Wismar, East Germany, Marita Koch displayed exceptional speed even as a young child and was defeating boys much older than herself in sprint races whilst at school. By the time she had turned 15 years old, she was training under Wolfgang Meier. Meier worked as a naval engineer, but also coached athletics part-time. Koch and Meier moved to Rostock where Koch began to study medicine. However, she decided to stop her studies and focus on running instead. Falilat Ogunkoya
Falilat Ogunkoya-Osheku (born 5 December 1968 in Ode Lemo, Ogun State, Nigeria) is a Nigerian former track and field athlete who holds the distinction of becoming the first Nigerian to win an individual track and field medal at the Olympic Games. Ogunkoya has won a number of national championships, including a gold medal in 1996 in the 400 metres, gold in the 200 metres and 400 m in 1998, and gold again in 1999 and 2001 in the 400 m. At the 1987 All Africa Games in Nairobi she won the silver medal in the 200 m. In 1995 at the All Africa Games in Harare she won the silver in the 400 m, and at the 1999 Games in Johannesburg she won a gold medal in the 400 m. La Nucia (; ) is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Marina Baixa, Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain. Jarmila Kratochvílová
Jarmila Kratochvílová (; born 26 January 1951 in Golčův Jeníkov) is a Czechoslovak former track and field athlete. She won the 400 metres and 800 metres at the 1983 World Championships, setting a world record in the 400 m. In 1983, she set the world record for the 800 metres, which still stands and is currently the longest-standing world record in athletics. Only two athletes, Pamela Jelimo of Kenya (2008), and Caster Semenya of South Africa (2018), have come within a second of Kratochvílová's mark since it was set. Biography In 1983, Kratochvílová broke the 800 m world record with a time of 1:53.28. At the World Championships shortly afterwards, she set a world record of 47.99 seconds to win the 400 m.
