2022 United States Attorney General Elections
The 2022 United States attorney general elections were held on November 8, 2022, to elect the State attorney general, attorneys general in thirty states, two territories, and one federal district. The previous elections for this group of states took place in 2018 United States Attorney General elections, 2018. The attorney general of Vermont serves two-year terms and was last elected in 2020 United States Attorney General elections, 2020. Seven states do not popularly elect an attorney general. These elections took place concurrently with several other 2022 United States elections, federal, state, and local elections. Democrats had a net gain of one seat in these elections, flipping Arizona and Vermont, while Republicans flipped Iowa. 2021 Virginia Attorney General Election
The 2021 Virginia attorney general election was held on November 2, 2021, to elect the next Attorney General of Virginia, attorney general of Virginia. Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring attempted to win a third term. Herring initially planned to run for Governor of Virginia, governor, but decided to run for re-election. Herring faced Republican nominee Jason Miyares in the general election. Herring conceded defeat at 5:02 PM EST the following day, November 3. Miyares became the first Cuban-American and Hispanic and Latino Americans, Hispanic to be elected to statewide office in Virginia. Miyares was later sworn in on January 15, 2022. William Tong
William Morten Tong (, born May 2, 1973) is an American lawyer and progressive politician who is the 25th and current Attorney General of Connecticut. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Tong attended Brown University and the University of Chicago Law School. He began his career as an attorney with the law firms Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Finn Dixon & Herling. In 2006, Tong entered politics upon winning election to the Connecticut House of Representatives to represent the 147th district, which includes most of North Stamford.
