2022 Tokyo Marathon
The 2021 Tokyo Marathon () was the fifteenth edition of the annual marathon race in Tokyo. The competition was held on Sunday 6 March 2022, having been postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The elite events were won by Kenyans Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei respectively, whilst the wheelchair races were won by Swiss athlete Marcel Hug and Japanese competitor Tsubasa Kina. Around 20,000 people competed in the mass participation event. Background In October 2020, the 2021 Tokyo Marathon was postponed from its usual date in March to October, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In September 2021, the event was postponed again, with the new date being 6 March 2022. As a consequence of this postponement, the 2022 Tokyo Marathon was cancelled, and the Tokyo Marathon was the only one of the World Marathon Majors that did not happen in 2021. The men's marathon event at the 2020 Summer Olympics started at 07:00 on 8 August 2021 in Sapporo, Japan. 106 athletes from 46 nations competed. The previous Olympic champion, Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge, successfully defended his title, with Dutch and Belgian athletes Abdi Nageeye and Bashir Abdi gaining silver and bronze, respectively. Kipchoge was the third man to repeat as Olympic marathon champion, after Abebe Bikila and Waldemar Cierpinski. The Netherlands and Belgium earned their first men's marathon medals since 1980 and 1976, respectively. Angela Tanui (born 27 July 1992) is a Kenyan marathon runner. Career Tanui trains in Iten in Elgeyo Marakwet County, in her home country of Kenya. She ran a new course record time of 2:17:57 to win the 2021 Amsterdam Marathon in October 2021. Tanui finished fourth at the 2022 Tokyo Marathon. Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya won gold in 2:27:20 followed by world record holder and Kenyan teammate Brigid Kosgei with silver, and American Molly Seidel winning the bronze medal in her third-ever marathon. 2021 Chicago Marathon
The 2021 Chicago Marathon was held on October 10, 2021. It was the 43rd edition of the annual Chicago Marathon, and the first after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019. The 2020 Chicago Marathon was canceled as a result of the pandemic. The race was the third of five World Marathon Majors scheduled for 2021; all the events in the series took place in the span of six weeks between late September and early November. Participants were required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccine, COVID-19 vaccination or a COVID-19 testing, negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of attending the event. Amos Kipruto (born 16 September 1992) is a Kenyan long-distance runner. He won the bronze medal in the men's marathon at the 2019 World Athletics Championships. Kipruto took victory at the 2022 London Marathon. Career In 2016, he won the Rome Marathon, and then the Seoul Marathon a year later.
