2022 Maharashtra Political Crisis
The 2022 Maharashtra political crisis began on 21 June 2022 in the Indian state of Maharashtra when Eknath Shinde, along with several other Member of the Legislative Assembly (India), MLAs of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition moved to Surat in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-governed Gujarat, throwing the coalition into a crisis. The group later moved to Guwahati in another BJP-governed state, Assam. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut accused BJP of causing the revolt within Shiv Sena and attempting to topple the MVA-coalition government, implicitly mentioned later in a remark by BJP's Sushil Kumar Modi, Sushil Modi. Eknath Shinde
Eknath Sambhaji Shinde (born 9 February 1964) is an Indian politician who has served as the List of deputy chief ministers of Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra since December 2024, alongside Ajit Pawar under Devendra Fadnavis. He is the chairperson of Shiv Sena (2022–present), Shiv Sena since February 2023 and was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from June 2022 to December 2024. 2023 Nationalist Congress Party Split
The 2023 Nationalist Congress Party split occurred on 2 July 2023, when Ajit Pawar, along with several other party leaders, separated from the NCP led by his uncle Sharad Pawar and joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and eight other NCP leaders were sworn in as ministers. This led to a split in the party, creating two factions: one led by Sharad Pawar and the other by Ajit Pawar. The division resulted in a legal battle over the party's name and symbol. On 6 February 2024, the Election Commission awarded the party name and symbol to the faction headed by Ajit Pawar. Rahul Narwekar is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is currently the MLA from the Colaba Assembly constituency and also the current Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Narwekar was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council in June 2016 as a Governor's Nominated member. Bhagat Singh Koshyari (born 17 June 1942) is an Indian politician who served as the 22nd governor of Maharashtra from 2019 to 2023.
