2022 Hawaii Gubernatorial Election
The 2022 Hawaii gubernatorial election took place on November 8, 2022, to elect the next governor of Hawaii. Incumbent Democratic Party (United States), Democratic governor David Ige was term-limited and ineligible to run for a third term. Incumbent Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii, lieutenant governor Josh Green (politician), Josh Green was the Democratic nominee, and faced former lieutenant governor Duke Aiona, the Republican nominee. This marked the third time Aiona had been the Republican gubernatorial nominee, having previously run unsuccessfully in 2010 Hawaii gubernatorial election, 2010 and 2014 Hawaii gubernatorial election, 2014. Hawaii Senate
The Hawaii State Senate ( Hawaiian: Ka ‘Aha Kenekoa) is the upper house of the Hawaii State Legislature. It consists of twenty-five members elected from an equal number of constituent districts across the islands and is led by the President of the Senate, elected from the membership of the body, currently Ron Kouchi. The forerunner of the Hawaii Senate during the government of the Kingdom of Hawaii was the House of Nobles originated in 1840. Colleen Hanabusa
Colleen Wakako Hanabusa (, born May 4, 1951) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the U.S. representative for from 2011 to 2015 and again from 2016 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, she ran for her party's nomination for governor of Hawaii in 2018, challenging and losing to incumbent and fellow Democrat David Ige. Before her election to the United States House of Representatives, Hanabusa was a member of the Hawaii Senate. She served as Senate Majority Leader before being elected Hawaii's first female President of the Senate in 2007. On August 24, 2011, she announced her intention to run for election to Congress. Kirk Caldwell
Kirk William Caldwell (born September 4, 1952) is an American politician who served as the mayor of Honolulu, Hawaii, from 2013 to 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, Caldwell also held the position of acting mayor in 2010 following the resignation of Mayor Mufi Hannemann. Caldwell announced that he would be running for the Democratic nomination in the 2022 Hawaii gubernatorial election in September 2021, but withdrew the following May. Benjamin Jerome Cayetano (born November 14, 1939) is an American politician and author who served as the fifth governor of the State of Hawaii from 1994 to 2002. He is the first Filipino American to serve as a state governor in the United States. Early years Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Cayetano was estranged from his mother at a young age. Cayetano was raised by his father in Kalihi, a Filipino-dominated neighborhood west of downtown Honolulu. He would grow up as a latchkey child. Vicky Tiu Cayetano (born 1955 or 1956) is an American businesswoman and politician who was the first lady of Hawaii from 1997 to 2002. She and former governor Ben Cayetano were married on May 5, 1997, in Washington Place. 2020 Honolulu Mayoral Election
The 2020 Honolulu mayoral election determined the mayor of the City and County of Honolulu for the term commencing in January 2021. Incumbent mayor Kirk Caldwell was ineligible to run for a third term due to term limits. The position of mayor of Honolulu is non-partisan. A nonpartisan blanket primary was held on Saturday, August 8, 2020. With no candidate receiving an outright majority of the vote in the primary, the top two finishers, Rick Blangiardi and Keith Amemiya, advanced to a November general election runoff on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Rick Blangiardi won the general election, defeating Amemiya with 58.2% of all votes. The city and county also had a record turnout, with 385,442 total votes in the election being cast.
