2022 BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Award
The 2022 BBC Sports Personality of the Year took place on 21 December 2022 at the dock10 (television facility), dock10 studios in Salford. Co-hosted by Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan, and Alex Scott (footballer, born 1984), Alex Scott, the event was broadcast live on BBC One. It paid tribute to Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth II and her interest in sport following her Death and state funeral of Elizabeth II, death in September of that year. Beth Mead won the 2022 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, becoming the first female footballer to do so. 2019 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, 2019 Winner and List of England cricket captains, England Cricket Test captain Ben Stokes was the runner-up, while curler Eve Muirhead finished third. dock10 is a Television studio, television facility owner and media services company in the City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. dock10 offers a number of services including post production and The Studios. Its studio filming facility, often referred to as The Studios, is the best-known part of the company. It was built as a major part of MediaCityUK, a development in Salford, Greater Manchester. The move saw a number of major productions leave London for the first time and head north to Manchester, Salford. The BBC, ITV (TV network), ITV and Channel 4 all relocated the filming of various shows to The Studios. Eve Muirhead
Eve Muirhead (born 22 April 1990) is a Scottish former curler from Perth and the skip of the British Olympic Curling team. Muirhead and the GB team became Olympic champions at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, having previously won the bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. As skip of the Scotland team, Muirhead won the 2011 European Championships in Moscow, the 2013 World Championships in Riga, the 2017 European Championships in St. Gallen and the 2021 European Championships in Lillehammer. She is also a four-time World Junior Champion (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011). On the night of the final, the public were allowed to vote for one of only six pre-selected contenders. Controversy This year's Award was cornered by controversy, when the WBC World Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury, issued a video on social media politely requesting the BBC remove his name from the nominations for the award: 'This is a message for the @bbcsport and their SPOTY award. Please take me off your list as I'm the people's champion and have no need for verifications or any awards.' The BBC ignored Fury's request. Barbara Slater (sports Producer)
Barbara Jane Slater, (born 10 May 1959) is a former English sports producer, who was BBC Director of Sport for 15 years before retiring in March 2024. She was also an ex-Olympic gymnast who represented Great Britain at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. Slater became the BBC's first female Director of Sport in April 2009, retiring from the role in March 2024 after overseeing fourteen different football World Cups and European Championships and seven Olympic Games.
