2021–22 SV Darmstadt 98 Season
The 2021–22 season was SV Darmstadt 98's 124th season in existence and the club's fifth consecutive season and 22nd season overall in the 2. Bundesliga, the second tier of German football. The club also participated in the DFB-Pokal. Background and pre-season Darmstadt 98 finished the 2020–21 season in 7th place, 11 points below the automatic promotion places and 13 points below the promotion play-off place. Sportverein Darmstadt 1898 e.V., commonly known as Darmstadt 98 (), is a German professional association football club based in Darmstadt, Hesse. The club was founded on 22 May 1898 as FC Olympia Darmstadt. Early in 1919, the association was briefly known as ''Rasen-Sportverein Olympia'' before merging with Darmstädter Sport Club 1905 on 11 November that year to become Sportverein Darmstadt 98. Merger partner SC was the product of a 1905 union between Viktoria 1900 Darmstadt and Germania 1903 Darmstadt. The footballers are today part of a sports club which also offers its over 13,500 members basketball, hiking, futsal, judo, and table tennis. Fabian Holland (born 11 July 1990) is a German professional footballer who plays as a left-back or defensive midfielder for and captains 2. Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt 98. Career Holland began his career in the youth teams of FSV Forst Borgsdorf, before joining Bundesliga club Hertha BSC in 2003. Working his way up through the youth divisions, he made the jump to the reserves in 2008, and started regularly as of the 2009–10 season. In summer 2010, Holland was diagnosed with Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome, and had to undergo a heart operation. He recovered quickly from the operation, and began playing again in October 2010. Emir Karić (; born 9 June 1997) is a professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Austrian Bundesliga club Sturm Graz. Born in Austria, he plays for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
