2021 Bhong Temple Attack
Ganesh Temple, Bhong (Urdu: گنیش مندر، بھونگ) was a prominent Hindu temple located in Bhong city in the Rahim Yar Khan district in Punjab province of Pakistan. On 4 August 2021, it was attacked, vandalised, and partially set ablaze by a mob following communal tensions over a blasphemy allegation involving a Hindu minor. Incident In late July 2021, an eight-year-old Hindu boy was accused of urinating in the library of a local madrassa, an act considered blasphemous by the Muslim community. The boy was arrested on 26 July and granted bail on 28 July. On 4 August, hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Ganesh temple in Bhong and stormed the building. 2019 Ghotki Riots
On September 15, 2019, in Ghotki city of Sindh province of Pakistan, a large number of extremist Muslims desecrated three Hindu temples, a private school and attacked shops and houses belonging to the Hindu community over the allegation of blasphemy against the Hindu principal of the Sindh Public School made by a school student. A delegation investigating the attack found that the attacks were pre-planned and had political support. Background On 14 September, a student in the Sindh Public School in Ghotki complained to his father that the principal had allegedly made derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad. Religious discrimination in Pakistan is a serious issue for the human rights situation in modern-day Pakistan. Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Shias, and Ahmadis among other religious minorities often face discrimination and at times are even subjected to violence. Blasphemy In Pakistan
The Pakistan Penal Code outlaws blasphemy () against any recognized religion, with punishments ranging from a fine to the death penalty. According to various human rights organizations, Pakistan's blasphemy laws have been used to persecute religious minorities and settle personal rivalries, frequently against other Muslims, rather than to safeguard religious sensibilities. From 1967 to 2014, over 1,300 people were accused of blasphemy, with Muslims constituting most of those accused. Between 1987 and February 2021, at least 1,855 individuals were charged under Pakistan's blasphemy laws. Although death sentences for blasphemy have been issued on numerous occasions, no one has yet been executed by the order of the courts or government of Pakistan. 2020 Karak Temple Attack
On December 30, 2020 the Samadhi of Shri Paramhans Ji Maharaj, a revered Hindu saint and the Krishna Dwara temple situated in the Teri village in the Karak District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan was attacked and burned, by a mob of 1,500 local Muslims led by a local Islamic cleric and supporters of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) (JUI–F) party. Following the incident, in order to avoid similar attack on worship places of minorities the "Protection of the Rights of Religious Minorities Bill" was introduced in the Senate of Pakistan.
