2021 BAL Group Phase
The 2021 BAL group phase began on 16 May 2021 and ended on 24 May 2021. A total of 12 teams competed in the group stage to decide the 8 places in the 2021 BAL Playoffs. Initially, it was planned that in the regular season, twelve teams play in two Conferences with six teams each. Each team will play five games, one against each opponent, inside its conference. The top three teams from each conference advance to the Super 6. The games will be played in six arenas divided over the African continent. The regular season will start in March 2020. The format was changed to a group phase as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In three groups of four each team plays the other one time and the first, second and best third-placed teams advance to the playoffs. Kigali Arena (cropped)
BK Arena (formerly known as Kigali Arena until 2022) is an multi-purpose indoor arena in Kigali, Rwanda, used mostly for basketball and volleyball matches. Built and finished in 2019, it hosts sporting events and concerts. It is the biggest indoor arena in East Africa and is located next to the Amahoro Stadium. The arena is regularly used for games of the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL). It was constructed by SUMMA, a Turkish international contractor. In 2021 Kigali Arena signed a contract with Rwandan singer Bruce Melodie a deal of 150 million RWF, as its brand ambassador for the next three years with a shared objective to position the venue as a regional entertainment hub. Wael Arakji ( ar, وائل عرقجي; born 4 September 1994) is a Lebanese basketball player for Lebanese Basketball League club Al Riyadi Club Beirut and the Lebanon men's national basketball team, Lebanon national team. He is nicknamed "the Great" (). Omar Abada ( ar, عمر عبادة, born 20 April 1993) is a Tunisian professional basketball player who plays for Al Wahda Damascus of the Syrian Basketball League. Abada also plays for the Tunisia national basketball team. Born in Tunis, he started his career in 2010 with Étoile de Radès where he stayed for eight seasons. Ater James "AJ" Majok (born 4 July 1987) is a professional basketball player for Al Riyadi Club Beirut of the Lebanese Basketball League. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2011 NBA draft with the 58th overall pick. He represents Lebanon internationally. High school and college career Majok was born in Sudan in 1987. Firas Lahyani (born 16 July 1991) is a Tunisian basketball player for AS Salé and the Tunisian national team. Mokhtar Ghyaza (born 15 November 1986) is a Tunisian basketball player who currently plays for US Monastir of the Championnat National A and the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
