West Virginia held elections on November 3, 2020. The Democratic Party (United States), Democratic and Republican Party (United States), Republican party primary elections were held on June 9, 2020. The 2020 elections solidified West Virginia's rightward shift as Republican party candidates won all United States House of Representatives, U.S. House seats, statewide executive offices and the United States Senate, U.S. Senate seat up for election (all with more than 56% of the vote) while also expanding their majorities in both state legislative chambers. President Donald Trump won every county in the state and 68.62% of the statewide vote in his re-election bid, for a statewide margin of 38.93%, although losing re-election. Patrick Morrisey
Patrick James Morrisey (born December 21, 1967) is an American politician and attorney serving as the 37th governor of West Virginia since 2025. He served as the 34th attorney general of West Virginia from 2013 to 2025. A member of the Republican Party, he was elected state attorney general in 2012, becoming the first Republican in the role since 1933. Morrisey ran for the United States Senate in 2018 and narrowly lost to incumbent Senator Joe Manchin. Darrell Vivian McGraw Jr. (November 8, 1936 – December 7, 2024) was an American lawyer and Democratic politician. He was the brother of former West Virginia State Supreme Court Justice and state Senate President Warren McGraw. He was elected to the state supreme court for a single 12-year term in 1976.
