2020 WNBL Season
The 2020 WNBL season was the 41st season of the competition since its establishment in 1981. The Canberra Capitals were the two-time defending champions, but were defeated in the semi-finals by Melbourne. The Southside Flyers won the Grand Final, defeating the Townsville Fire, 99–82. The Flyers took home the franchise's fourth WNBL title overall, this being their first since rebranding as ''Southside''. Chemist Warehouse was again the WNBL's naming rights partner for this season, after signing a three-year deal in July 2018. Spalding again provided equipment including the official game ball, alongside iAthletic supplying team apparel for the fourth consecutive season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a North Queensland hub was set to host the season. The season was originally ''2020–21'' and would be traditionally played over several months across the summer, however this season's scheduling had been condensed. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is a professional women's basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Australia composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the Women's sports, women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL). History Founding of the WNBL In August 1980, West Adelaide Bearcat Coach Ted Owens (basketball), Ted Powell, after an encouraging exchange of letters with St Kilda'Coach Bill Palmer called a meeting at the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel in Adelaide. Alison Schwagmeyer
Alison Renee Schwagmeyer (born July 31, 1990) is an American former professional basketball player. She played college basketball for the Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Quincy Hawks before playing in Germany, Australia, Romania, Spain, and Serbia. Katie Ebzery
Katie-Rae Ebzery (born 8 January 1990), also known as Katie Ebzery, is an Australian former professional basketball player who played 15 seasons in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She was a three-time All-WNBL First Team member and a two-time Olympian with the Australian Opals. Early life Ebzery was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, in the suburb of Waratah. Lauren Marie Scherf (born 7 March 1996) is an Australian-Latvian professional basketball player. Early life Scherf was born in Melbourne, Victoria, in the suburb of East Melbourne. Professional career WNBL Scherf debuted in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) in the 2013–14 season with the Dandenong Rangers. She played four seasons with the Rangers, where she won the WNBL Rookie of the Year Award in the 2014–15 season. Between 2017 and 2019, Scherf played for the Canberra Capitals. Jade Melbourne (born 18 August 2002) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Washington Mystics of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the UC Capitals of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). Tess Madgen (born 12 August 1990) is an Australian professional basketball player. She currently plays for the Melbourne Boomers in the WNBL. She was also a member of the Australian Opals until September 3, 2024 when she retired from international duties. Perth Lynx
The Perth Lynx are an Australian professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The Lynx compete in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and play their home games at both WA Basketball Centre, Bendat Basketball Centre and Perth High Performance Centre. Darcee Garbin (born 24 June 1994) is an Australian professional basketball player. Early life and family Garbin is originally from Western Australia.
