2019 World's Best Racehorse Rankings
The 2019 World's Best Racehorse Rankings, sponsored by Longines was the 2019 edition of the World's Best Racehorse Rankings. It was an assessment of Thoroughbred racehorses issued by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) on 22 January 2020. It included horses aged three or older which competed in flat races during 2019. It was open to all horses irrespective of where they raced or were trained. For the first time the rankings saw a three-way tie for first place between the European five-year-olds Crystal Ocean, Enable and Waldgeist. The top rating of 128 was the lowest in the history of the rankings. Vino Rosso (foaled March 29, 2015) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2019 Breeders' Cup Classic. Racing career Vino Rosso made his racing debut on November 11, 2017 with a win at Aqueduct Racetrack. He then won his second race at Tampa Bay Downs on December 22, 2017. At age three, his 2018 racing season started with a third place finish in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes. He picked up his first Graded stakes race win on April 7, 2018, in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial Stakes. He competed in the 2018 Kentucky Derby, where he finished in 9th place. Happy Clapper (foaled 25 October 2010) is a retired multiple Group 1 winning Australian bred thoroughbred racehorse. He is also remembered for running second on 5 occasions behind champion race mare Winx. Racing career Happy Clapper raced as a 2 year old and 3 year old without success. Code of Honor (May 23, 2016 – December 23, 2022) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2019 Dwyer Stakes, Travers Stakes, and Jockey Club Gold Cup, and came second in the 2019 Kentucky Derby. He was euthanized on December 23, 2022, following an inoperable bout of colic. Racing career 2018: Two-year-old season Code of Honor won his debut on 18 August 2018 at Saratoga Racecourse, and then came second in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes on October 6. Bricks and Mortar (foaled March 2, 2014) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who was named the American Horse of the Year in 2019. After winning four of six starts at age three, he missed most of his four-year-old campaign due to illness. At age five however, he established himself as the top-ranked turf horse in North America with wins in the Pegasus World Cup Turf, Muniz Memorial Handicap, Turf Classic Stakes, Manhattan Handicap and Arlington Million. Sottsass (foaled 24 March 2016) is a French Thoroughbred racehorse. In a career which ran from August 2018 to October 2020 he ran nine times and won five races, including three at the highest Group One level. He showed promise as a two-year-old in 2018 when he won the second of his two starts. In the following year he was beaten on his seasonal debut but then developed into a top-class middle distance performer with wins in the Prix de Suresnes, Prix du Jockey Club and Prix Niel. Mitole (foaled March 23, 2015) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse who was foaled and raised at Hermitage Farm in Oldham County, Kentucky. He was named the American Champion Male Sprint Horse of 2019 after winning six of seven starts that year including the Churchill Downs Stakes, Metropolitan Handicap, Forego Stakes, and Breeders' Cup Sprint.
