Southland Conference
The Southland Conference, abbreviated as SLC, is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States (specifically Texas and Louisiana). It participates in the NCAA's Division I for all sports; for football, it participates in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Southland sponsors 18 sports, 10 for women and eight for men, and is governed by a presidential Board of Directors and an Advisory Council of athletic and academic administrators. Chris Grant became the Southland's seventh commissioner on April 5, 2022. From 1996 to 2002, for football only, the Southland Conference was known as the Southland Football League. The conference's offices are located in the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas. The 2019 Lamar Cardinals football team represented Lamar University in the 2019 NCAA Division I FCS football season as a member of the Southland Conference. The Cardinals were led by third-year head coach Mike Schultz and played their home games at Provost Umphrey Stadium. The Cardinals played a twelve game regular season schedule in 2019. Strawberry Stadium is a 7,408-seat football/soccer stadium in Hammond, Louisiana. It is home to the Southeastern Louisiana University Lions American football team. The stadium also hosts St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School football, previously hosted Hammond High School football, and has been the site of numerous play-off games involving other schools from Tangipahoa Parish. 2019 McNeese State Cowboys Football Team
The 2019 McNeese State Cowboys football team represented McNeese State University as a member of the Southland Conference during the 2019 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Led by Sterlin Gilbert in his first and only season as head coach, the Cowboys compiled an overall record of 7–5 with a mark of 5–4 in conference play, placing fifth in the Southland. McNeese State played home games at Cowboy Stadium in Lake Charles, Louisiana. On November 20, 2018, head coach Lance Guidry was fired. He finished at McNeese State with a three-year record of 21–12. The Battle of the Piney Woods is a Football Championship Subdivision college football rivalry between Sam Houston State University (SHSU) located in Huntsville, Texas and Stephen F.
