2019 State Basketball League Season
The 2019 State Basketball League season was the 31st season of the State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season began on Friday 15 March and ended on Sunday 28 July. The finals began on Friday 2 August and concluded with the women's grand final on Friday 30 August and the men's grand final on Saturday 31 August. Pre-season The 2019 SBL Pre-Season Blitz was held at Warwick Stadium over Saturday 2 March and Sunday 3 March. Regular season The regular season began on Friday 15 March and ended on Sunday 28 July after 20 rounds of competition. Easter games in round 6 were again scheduled for Thursday night, with all teams then on a break over the long weekend. Games tipped-off again on Anzac Day as the tradition continued between the Kalamunda Eastern Suns and Willetton Tigers. State Basketball League
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. Kalamunda Eastern Suns
Kalamunda Eastern Suns is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of Kalamunda & Districts Basketball Association (KDBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in Perth's eastern region. The Suns play their home games at Ray Owen Sports Centre. Club history Background Kalamunda & Districts Basketball Association (KDBA) was incorporated on 1 October 1971. In 1991, after a period of non affiliation with Basketball Western Australia, KDBA entered teams as the Kalamunda Hornets in the WA Junior State League competition. Greg Hire
Greg Hire (born 19 September 1987) is an Australian former professional basketball player. He played four years of college basketball in the United States before joining the Perth Wildcats of the National Basketball League (NBL) in 2010 as a development player. In 2011, he was elevated to the full-time roster and in 2014 he won his first NBL championship. He went on to win three more championships in 2016, 2017 and 2019. In the NBL1 West, he won a championship with the Wanneroo Wolves in 2011 and again with the Rockingham Flames in 2022. Early life Hire was born in Perth, Western Australia. Red Frogs
Red Frogs Australia is a Christian Youth charity run by volunteers known as the 'Red Frogs Crew'. The volunteers participate in many events that are attended by school leavers and university students, such as schoolies week, university parties, high school seminars, music festivals and sporting events. The Red Frogs Crew gained their name from handing out lollies named Allens' Red Frogs. Since 1997, Allens' has donated over 24 tonne of the red frog confectionery every year. The Crew's vision is to "safeguard a generation" that is outworked through education, early intervention and harm minimisation. Alexandra Antonietta Ciabattoni (born 1 June 1994) is an Australian former professional basketball player and current coach of the South West Slammers of the NBL1 West. Early life Ciabattoni was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. Earnest Ross
Earnest Lee Ross Jr. (born January 27, 1991) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Toyoda Gosei Scorpions of the Japanese B.League. Born in the U.S. territory of Guam, he represented the Guam national team for the first time in 2018. He played college basketball for Auburn and Missouri before beginning his professional career in Australia in 2014. He played half a season with the Perth Wildcats before an Achilles injury ended his rookie year. He continued on in Australia in 2016 with the Ballarat Miners. The WA Basketball Centre (also known by its sponsored name, the Bendat Basketball Centre) is a multi-purpose stadium located in Perth, Western Australia. The stadium features eight courts, including two basketball show courts with 1,100 permanent seats and 900 retractable seats, and a six-court sports hall with multi-sport line markings.
