Autonomous Regional Council Of The South Caribbean Coast
The South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Regional Council is the devolved legislature of the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region. It has the power to legislate on a wide variety of economic, social, and cultural issues not reserved to the central government. The council has the same power as the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Regional Council. History Autonomy is framed in the recognition of the historical rights of indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants and ethnic communities of the Caribbean Coast that were legally constituted in 1987 in the statutes of Law 28 of Autonomy. As of the approval of Law 28 in October 1987, the Autonomous Regions began a process of creation, strengthening and development of the autonomous institutions. The Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance ( – ALN) is a political coalition in Nicaragua. It was started in 2005 by Eduardo Montealegre and other members of the Constitutional Liberal Party (Partido Liberal Constitucionalista – PLC) who opposed former President of the country Arnoldo Alemán's continued control of the PLC even after he had been found guilty of misuse of public funds, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The Republic of Nicaragua elects on national level a head of state – the president – and a unicameral legislature. The President of Nicaragua and his or her vice-president are elected on one ballot for a five-year term by the people. The Conservative Party () is a conservative political party in Nicaragua. Its slogan is “Dios, Orden, Justicia” (), often depicted on the three sides of a triangle. History The party is the oldest currently existing in Nicaragua. It was founded during the 19th century, as Nicaragua established itself as an independent republic, by members of the elite of Granada. As in many Latin American countries, a major political conflict took place between conservatives and liberals. During the 1840s and 1850s a nearly constant civil war took place between conservatives and liberals in Nicaragua. In 1857 the conservatives won, and dominated the country for 35 years. The Independent Liberal Party ( es, Partido Liberal Independiente - PLI) is a Nicaraguan political party, which separated from Somoza's Nationalist Liberal Party (PLN) in 1944 and took part in the probably fraudulent election of 1947, won by Somoza's favored candidate. The PLI participated in the 1984 election, winning 9.6% of vote for President with its candidate Virgilio Godoy. In 1990 it was part of the National Opposition Union (UNO) - a broad alliance of Sandinista regime opponents - with Virgilio Godoy running as the vice-presidential candidate. UNO won the elections with 54% of the vote. South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region
The South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region is one of two autonomous regions in Nicaragua. It covers an area of and has a population of 420,935 (2021 estimate). The capital is Bluefields. Bordering the Caribbean Sea, it contains part of the region known as the Mosquito Coast. It is divided into 12 municipalities: Bluefields, the Corn Islands, El Ayote, El Rama, El Tortuguero, Karawala, Kukra Hill, La Cruz de Río Grande, Muelle de los Bueyes, Nueva Guinea, Paiwas, and Pearl Lagoon. Yapti Tasba Masraka Nanih Aslatakanka (; YATAMA) is an indigenous party mainly active on Nicaragua's Atlantic coast. YATAMA has its roots in the MISURASATA (Miskito, Sumo and Rama Sandinista Alliance) and the MISURA/ KISAN organisations.
