The 2019 NCAA Division I men's basketball championship game was the final game of the single-elimination tournament to determine the men's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) NCAA Division I, Division I college basketball national champion for the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, 2018–19 season. The game was played on April 8, 2019, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minneapolis, Minnesota, between the 2018–19 Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball team, Texas Tech Red Raiders and the 2018–19 Virginia Cavaliers men's basketball team, Virginia Cavaliers. It was the first time since 1979 NCAA Division I Basketball Championship Game, 1979 that both teams in the national championship game were making their first such appearance. The 2019 Phillips 66 Big 12 men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Big 12 Conference. It was played from March 13 to 16, in Kansas City, Missouri at the Sprint Center. Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament and replays are not allowed.
