2019 FC Edmonton Season
The 2019 FC Edmonton season was the eighth season in the club's history, as well as the first season in Canadian Premier League history. Overview After finishing in seventh place in the 2017 NASL season, FC Edmonton discontinued professional operations, but kept their academy. Co-owner Tom Fath stated that the franchise had proved to be unsustainable in the Edmonton market, and the decision was reinforced by the uncertainty surrounding the status of the NASL. Despite these events, there was speculation that the still under construction Canadian Premier League was looking at Edmonton as a potential market. That speculation proved to be correct on June 8, 2018, when it was announced that Edmonton had come out of hiatus and officially joined the new league. FC Edmonton
FC Edmonton was a Canadian professional Association football, soccer club based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club was founded in 2010 and competed in the North American Soccer League (2011–2017), North American Soccer League (NASL) from 2011 to 2017. The club went on hiatus when NASL ceased competitive operations before the cancelled 2018 season. Randy Edwini-Bonsu (born April 20, 1990) is a Canadian soccer player who last played for FC Edmonton in the Canadian Premier League. Club career Early career Edwini-Bonsu started playing soccer when his family immigrated from Ghana to Edmonton, Alberta in 2002. He played club soccer for the Green & Gold Soccer Club at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and, from 2004 and 2006, was a member of the Alberta provincial team, leading his province to a gold medal victory at the 2006 Canadian All-Star Championship. Jeannot Esua
Jeannot Esua (born 6 August 1996) is a Cameroonian professional footballer who plays as a right-back for League of Ireland Premier Division club Galway United. Club career Orange County SC On 5 June 2017, Esua joined United Soccer League club Orange County SC from Cameroonian side Rainbow Bamenda. Dylon Powley (born 5 September 1996) is a Canadian soccer coach and former player who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Calgary Foothills In 2016, Powley began playing for Premier Development League side Calgary Foothills and made twelve regular season appearances and five playoff appearances that season. The Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas are the sports teams that represent the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Alberta athletics teams have won a total of 93 national championships, including 79 U Sports sanctioned sports, making it one of the most successful programs in the country.
