2018–19 Süper Lig
The 2018–19 Süper Lig, officially called the Spor Toto Süper Lig Lefter Küçükandonyadis season, was the 61st season of the Süper Lig, the highest tier football league of Turkey. The season began on 10 August 2018 and concluded in 26 May 2019. The season was named after Lefter Küçükandonyadis, a former Turkey national team player and Fenerbahçe legend. This season the VAR was introduced in all games of Süper Lig competition. Teams A total of 18 teams contest the league, including 15 sides from the 2017–18 season and three promoted from the 2017–18 TFF First League. It includes Rizespor and Ankaragücü, the two top teams from the TFF First League, and Erzurum BB, the winners of the 2017–18 TFF First League playoffs. Süper Lig
The Süper Lig (, ''Super League''), also known as Trendyol Süper Lig for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Turkey and the highest level of the Turkish football league system. In the 2023–2024 season, twenty clubs compete, where a champion is decided and three clubs are promotion and relegation, promoted from, and another four relegated to the TFF First League, 1. Lig. The season runs from August to May, with each club playing 36 matches. Matches are played Friday through Monday. Run by the Turkish Football Federation, the league succeeded the Turkish Football Championship and the Turkish National Division, National Division, both being former top-level national competitions. The Süper Lig is currently 9th in the UEFA coefficient ranking of leagues based on club performances in European competitions over the last five years. The 2019–20 Süper Lig, officially called the Süper Lig Cemil Usta season, was the 62nd season of the Süper Lig, the highest tier football league of Turkey. The season was named after Cemil Usta, a former Turkey national team player and Trabzonspor legend. Galatasaray were the defending champions. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Ministry of Youth and Sports announced on 12 March 2020 that matches would be played behind closed doors until the end of April, before indefinitely suspending matches altogether on 19 March. After a hiatus of nearly three months, the season resumed behind closed doors on 12 June 2020, with eight rounds still to play. The season ended with matches played on 26 July 2020, and without relegations. İstanbul Başakşehir clinched their first league title, on July 20, 2020 with a 1-0 win against Kayserispor, 1 week to spare. Kardemir Karabükspor
Kardemir Demir Çelik Karabükspor, known simply as Kardemir Karabükspor or Karabükspor, was a Turkish sports club based in Karabük. The team was founded in 1969 after a merger between "Karabük Gençlikspor" and "Demir Çelik Spor". The club had branches in football, wheelchair basketball and volleyball. The nickname of the club was ''Mavi Ateş'' (Blue Flame), based on the unfading blue flames of chimneys from the Kardemir iron-steel works located in the city. As the factory gives its name to the club, the team was regarded as a blue collar worker's team. The club finances collapsed during the 2017–18 Süper Lig season, setting the club on a path of constant relegation, losing almost every game as they could play nothing but amateur youth players. The club became unable to field teams and were ultimately banned from the amateur leagues which led to dissolution as a club. Sincan Belediyesi Ankaraspor Kulübü, commonly known as Ankaraspor (), is a Turkish professional football club based in the country's capital Ankara. Founded in 1978, the club competes in the TFF Second League. The club was known as Osmanlıspor from 2014 to 2020. The TFF 1. Lig (), currently referred to as Trendyol 1. Lig for sponsorship reasons, is the second level of the Turkish football league system. The league was founded in 2001 as the ''Turkish Second League Category A'' after the reorganization of the Second Football League, which was the second level of the Turkish league system between 1963 and 2001. The league was called ''Türk Telekom Lig A'' in the 2006–07 season, and was renamed to ''TFF 1. Lig'' prior to the 2007–08 season. As of 16 January 2008 the league was renamed as Bank Asya 1. Lig. The video assistant referee (VAR) is a Assistant referee (association football), match official in association football who assists the referee by reviewing decisions using video footage and providing advice to the referee based on those reviews. The assistant video assistant referee (AVAR) is a match official appointed to assist the VAR in the video operation room and around the pitch.
