2018–19 San Diego State Aztecs Men's Basketball Team
The 2018–19 San Diego State men's basketball team represented San Diego State University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Aztecs, led by second-year head coach Brian Dutcher, played their home games at Viejas Arena as members in the Mountain West Conference. They finished the season 21–13, 11–7 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for fourth place. They defeated UNLV and Nevada to advance to the championship game of the Mountain West tournament where they lost to Utah State. Previous season The Aztecs finished the season 22–11, 11–7 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for fourth place. Brian Dutcher
Brian James Dutcher (born October 30, 1959) is an American college basketball coach and is the head coach for the San Diego State Aztecs men's team of the Mountain West Conference. He was an assistant under head coach Steve Fisher with the Michigan Wolverines and San Diego State, succeeding Fisher as Aztecs' head coach upon his retirement in 2017. Coaching career Dutcher has more than 30 years of coaching experience, including 18 seasons as an assistant to Steve Fisher at San Diego State preceded by nine at the University of Michigan. Dutcher joined then-interim coach Fisher in 1989 when Michigan won the national championship. Dutcher is credited for having a central role in recruiting the Fab Five to Michigan and for bringing Kawhi Leonard to San Diego State. El Camino High School (Oceanside, California)
El Camino High School is one of two high schools of the Oceanside Unified School District, located at 400 Rancho Del Oro Drive in Oceanside, California. Declared a California Distinguished School in the early 2000s, it was originally named "Oceanside High School East", and officially became El Camino High School in 1976. El Camino's Truax Theatre was built in the early 1980s and houses a large performance venue, an adjacent classroom with stage and large music and drama rooms. Nathan Mensah
Nathan Mensah (born 9 April 1998) is a Ghanaian professional basketball player for the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League. Known for his immense wingspan, he played college basketball for the San Diego State Aztecs. High school career Mensah grew up playing soccer in Ghana. At the age of 13, he began playing basketball after being recruited to play in a tournament. Mensah was spotted by Kwaku Amoaku and moved to the United States to attend Prolific Prep. Malachi Flynn (born May 9, 1998) () is an American professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Malik Pope (born July 25, 1996) is an American professional basketball player for Rapla KK of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. He played college basketball for the San Diego State Aztecs. Early life Pope is a native of Sacramento and played for Laguna Creek High School He measured 6'3 as a high school sophomore and 6'8 as a junior, crediting his growth spurt in part to drinking more milk.
