2018–19 Minnesota Whitecaps Season
The 2018–19 Minnesota Whitecaps season was the first in franchise history as a member of the National Women's Hockey League, in which the team won the Isobel Cup during their inaugural year. Background On May 15, 2018, the NWHL announced that it had an agreement in principle to acquire ownership of the Whitecaps. The team is expected to join the NWHL as an expansion team for the 2018–19 season. The NWHL arranged with the Minnesota Wild to use TRIA Rink, the Wild's practice facility, as the site for Whitecaps home games. It was reported that the Whitecaps had hired 2018 Olympic gold medal-winning coach Robb Stauber and his wife Shivaun Stauber as coaches, sharing the head coaching responsibilities, but the parties never signed a contract. Ronda Curtin Engelhardt
Ronda Curtin Engelhardt (born November 2, 1980, in Roseville, Minnesota) is an American ice hockey player and coach. She currently serves as head coach of the Minnesota Whitecaps, leading the team to an Isobel Cup victory in 2019. During her playing career with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers ice hockey team, she was a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award, and was selected to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association women's team of the decade in the 2000s. Career Prior to playing for Minnesota, Curtin was a member of the United States Select Team roster that competed at the 1999 Christmas Cup tournament in Fussen, Germany, on December 27–30, 1999. Amanda Leveille
Amanda Leveille (born June 10, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Minnesota Whitecaps of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). She currently holds the PHF record for all-time wins, and has won the Isobel Cup twice. Career Early career As a youth player, Leveille played on AAA boys teams, being named best goaltender at the 2011 Canadian National U18 Championship. In 2011, she joined the Ottawa Lady Senators, where she would stay for her last two years of high school. University During college, Leveille played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey program for four seasons between 2012 and 2016. Emma Stauber
Emma Stauber is an American ice hockey defender, currently playing for the Minnesota Whitecaps in the PHF. She formerly served as captain of the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. Career Stauber began playing hockey at the age of four, originally wanting to be a goaltender like her uncle, but was discouraged from the position by her father, who advised her she'd have a better chance of making a team as a defender. During high school, she played for the Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall Mirage, leading her team in scoring in her final year. She was named to the 2011 Minnesota Associated Press Girls Second All-State Team. Amy Menke
Amy Menke is an American professional ice hockey forward, currently playing with the Minnesota section of the PWHPA. She has previously won both the Isobel Cup and the ZhHL championship. Career Across 146 NCAA games, Menke scored 108 points, serving as the University of North Dakota team captain in her senior year. Just weeks after her graduation, the university controversially announced that it was cutting its women's hockey programme. She wrote an article in The Players' Tribune in response, stating that "Our program was a big family, and it died that day." Sadie Lundquist (born June 18, 1991) is a former American ice hockey executive and retired hockey player who played as a forward. Lundquist last played for the Minnesota Whitecaps of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) during her playing career. She then went on to work as a Senior Account Executive, Fan Relations, for the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild. She is currently a Manager, Client Strategy & Services at Bold Orange. Career Lundquist played high school hockey for Cloquet-Esko-Carlton. From 2009 to 2013, she attended Bemidji State University, scoring 83 points in 144 NCAA games. Lauren Kate Barnes (born May 31, 1989) is an American professional soccer player who currently plays as a defender for OL Reign of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She previously played for the Philadelphia Independence in the WPS and represented the United States on the under-15, under-20, and under-23 national teams. Sydney Rossman (born May 27, 1995) is American retired ice hockey goaltender, who played with both the Minnesota Whitecaps and the Connecticut Whale of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). Playing career During her youth, Rossman trained with the Carroll Goalie School. While attending Minnetonka High School, she played with the Skippers girls' ice hockey team in the Minnesota Class AA of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). New Hampshire Wildcats Women's Ice Hockey
The New Hampshire Wildcats represent the University of New Hampshire. They have won five ECAC championships between 1986 and 1996. When the Wildcats joined Hockey East, they won four Hockey East titles from 2006 to 2009. The Wildcats have more wins than any other women's ice hockey program at 668 in its first 32 years. The Wildcats went undefeated in their initial 74 games (73-0-1) spanning the 1978 through 1982 seasons. Jonna Albers (born February 28, 1994) is an American ice hockey player, currently playing in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) with the Minnesota Whitecaps, who she won an Isobel Cup with in 2019. Prior to that, she captained the New Hampshire Wildcats women's ice hockey team, twice earning a Hockey East All-Star Honorable Mention. Career As a youth player, Albers was a finalist for the Minnesota Ms. Hockey award in 2012, and set the Elk River High School scoring records in points and assists. Amanda Boulier (born March 30, 1993) is an American ice hockey player and coach, currently playing in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) with PWHL Montreal. Career St. Lawrence won the Eastern College Athletic Conference in her rookie NCAA season, where she scored 20 points in 38 games and was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team. Allie Thunstrom
Allison Thunstrom (born April 20, 1988) is an American ice hockey forward for the Boston Pride in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). She currently holds the PHF record for goals scored in a single season. She has also played for the United States national team. Playing career High school At North St. Paul High School, she was the recipient of the 2006 Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award. She was named to the Associated Press All-State first-team in 2006. In addition, she was an All-Conference and All-State in soccer and softball in the state of Minnesota as well. NCAA Thunstrom never missed a game while competing for Boston College.
