2018–19 Ascenso MX Season
The 2018–19 Ascenso MX season is a two-part competition: Apertura 2018 and Clausura 2019. Ascenso MX is the second-tier football league of Mexico. Apertura began on 20 July 2018, and Clausura began on 4 January 2019. Changes from the previous season Nine teams met the requirements to be promoted to the Liga MX for the 2019–2020 season: Atlético San Luis, Juárez, Oaxaca, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tampico Madero, UdeG, Zacatecas, and Zacatepec. Atlante and Celaya lost their right to be promoted from the previous season. The relegated team of the Clausura 2019 Liga MX season had the option of paying MXN$120 million to remain in Liga MX. Of that amount, MXN$60 million would go to the Ascenso MX team that is not certified to be promoted and MXN$60 million would go to new projects determined by the Liga MX assembly. Ascenso MX
Ascenso MX, also known as Ascenso BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, was a professional association football league in Mexico and the second level of the Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Primera División A de México (1994–2009) and also as Liga de Ascenso (2009–2012). The champions of the competition was promoted to Liga MX (top level), and the bottom team was relegated to Liga Premier (third level). In 2012, the league rebranded its name and competition format as Ascenso MX, the major changes (clubs do not need a FMF certification to be promoted and that the competition no longer used group stages). 2019–20 Ascenso MX Season
The 2019–20 Ascenso MX season was a two-part competition: Apertura 2019 and Clausura 2020, which were the final two seasons of Ascenso MX, the second-tier football league of Mexico. Apertura began on 1 August 2019. On April 17, Liga MX President Enrique Bonilla announced the termination of the remainder of the Clausura 2020 tournament. Two reasons were the COVID-19 pandemic and the league's lack of financial resources. On 22 May 2020 the Clausura season was cancelled and no champion will be crowned. With this announcement there would be no promotion or regulation for six seasons. Changes from the previous season All teams are able to be promoted to Liga MX 2020–2021 season. Estadio Tlahuicole
The Estadio Tlahuicole is a multi-use stadium in Tlaxcala City, Tlaxcala, Mexico. It is currently used mostly for association football, football matches and is the home stadium for Tlaxcala F.C. The stadium has a capacity of 11,135 people. In December 2017 the stadium was demolished to give way to its reconstruction, as well as the expansion of its capacity to 15,000 spectators to comply with the Ascenso MX regulations. On 6 December 2019, the first renovation stage was opened, with these works, the stadium achieved a capacity for 12,000 spectators. Club de Fútbol Loros de la Universidad de Colima was Mexican football club that lastly played in the Ascenso MX, the second tier division of Mexican football. The club was based in Colima, Mexico. The team participated in the Ascenso MX during the 2016–17 season after earning promotion by winning the Torneo Clausura 2015 Championship over Cruz Azul Hidalgo and the Final de Ascenso against U.A. Estado de Mexico (winners of Apertura 2014). They were initially going to get promoted during the 2015–2016 season, but they did not meet the stadium requirements set forth by the Mexican Football Federation. Club de Fútbol Lobos de la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla were a Mexican football club based in Puebla, Mexico. The club represented the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. The club's history goes back to the early 1930s when it was known as Preparatoria, formed exclusively by players who attended the university. The club has played on and off since then. It was not until the 1990s when the club made a serious comeback after playing in the lower levels of Mexican football. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals " away from home" wins the tiebreaker. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total. Club Deportivo Mineros de Zacatecas, simply known as Mineros de Zacatecas, is a Mexican professional football club based in Zacatecas, that competes in Liga de Expansión MX, the second level division of Mexican football. Founded in 2014, after the Estudiantes Tecos franchise was moved from Zapopan to Zacatecas. History In December 2012, Grupo Pachuca purchased the Estudiantes Tecos franchise as they were relegated to the Ascenso MX. The team failed to gain promotion when they lost in penalties to Leones Negros de la U. de G. It was then that Grupo Pachuca decided to move the franchise from Zapopan, Jalisco to Zacatecas, Zacatecas, so as to not have four teams in Guadalajara.
