2018 Virginia Cavaliers Football Team
The 2018 Virginia Cavaliers football team represented the University of Virginia during the 2018 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Cavaliers were led by third-year head coach Bronco Mendenhall and played their home games at Scott Stadium. They competed as a member of the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Previous season Virginia ended the 2017 season with a 6–7 overall record, 3–5 in the ACC, to finish in a tie for fourth place in the ACC Coastal Division. Bronco Mendenhall
Marc Bronco Clay Mendenhall (born February 21, 1966) is an American college football coach who is the head coach at Utah State University (USU). He was previously the head coach at the University of New Mexico (UNM) for the 2024 season, the University of Virginia from 2016 to 2021, and Brigham Young University (BYU) from 2005 to 2015. He has a career record of 140 victories and 88 losses and has recorded fourteen postseason bowl game appearances with seven victories. Mendenhall is known for his unorthodox methods and "Earned Not Given" motto, even having players earn their jersey numbers each season. In 2019, Mendenhall became the first Virginia coach to bring both the Commonwealth Cup and Jefferson-Eppes Trophy to Charlottesville at the same time, and his Cavaliers also won the South's Oldest Rivalry in the same season. Olamide Zaccheaus ( ; born July 23, 1997) is an American professional football wide receiver for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Virginia Cavaliers and has also played in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders. 2018 NCAA Division I FBS Football Rankings
Two human polls and a committee's selections comprised the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) football rankings, in addition to various publications' preseason polls. Unlike most sports, college football's governing body, the NCAA, does not bestow a national championship, instead that title is bestowed by one or more different polling agencies. There are two main weekly polls that begin in the preseason—the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll. One additional poll, the College Football Playoff (CFP) ranking, is released midway through the season after the ninth week. Bryce Perkins (born December 20, 1996) is an American professional football quarterback for the Michigan Panthers of the United Football League (UFL). He played college football at Arizona State, Arizona Western, and Virginia before signing with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
