2018 U.S. Senior Women's Open
The 2018 U.S. Senior Women's Open was the inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open. It was a professional golf tournament organized by the United States Golf Association, open to women over 50 years of age. The championship was played at the Chicago Golf Club, Wheaton, Illinois, from July 12 to 15 and was won by Laura Davies, England. Venue The 2018 U.S. Senior Women's Open was the 12th USGA Championship contested at Chicago Golf Club. The last previous championship contested here was the 2005 Walker Cup, when the U.S. team defeated Great Britain and Ireland by a single point. Wheaton, Illinois
Wheaton is a suburban city in Milton and Winfield Townships and is the county seat of DuPage County, Illinois. It is located approximately west of Chicago. Murle Lindstrom
Murle MacKenzie Lindstrom Breer (born January 20, 1939) is an American professional golfer best known for winning the 1962 U.S. Women's Open. She competed as Murle MacKenzie until her first marriage in 1961, then as Murle Lindstrom until her second marriage in 1969. Breer was born in St. Petersburg, Florida. She joined the LPGA Tour in 1958. Her first Tour victory came in a major championship in 1962, when she defeated Jo Ann Prentice and Ruth Jessen by one stroke in the U.S. Women's Open which was held at the Dunes Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Breer enjoyed three more Tour victories in the 1960s and one mixed team win in the 1970s. She retired as a touring professional in 1984. Catherine Lacoste
Catherine Lacoste (born 27 June 1945) is a French amateur golfer and the only player who has won the U.S. Women's Open as an amateur. Early life She was born and grew up in Paris, France, with her parents, René Lacoste and Simone de la Chaume and three older brothers. Her family spent many holidays in the coast resort area of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, in France close to the Spanish border, near the Golf de Chantaco. The club was founded by Lacoste's grandfather René Thion de la Chaume in 1928, as a celebration of the British Ladies Amateur triumph a year earlier by Lacoste's mother. Sandra Haynie
Sandra Jane Haynie (born June 4, 1943) is an American former professional golfer on the LPGA Tour starting in 1961. She won four major championships, 42 LPGA Tour career events, and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Amateur career Haynie was born in Fort Worth, Texas. She won the 1957-58 Texas State Publinx and the 1958-59 Texas Amateur. She also captured the 1960 Trans-Mississippi title. Professional career Haynie joined the LPGA Tour in 1961 at the age of 18 and she achieved her first professional title championship in 1962 at age 19 at the Austin Civitan Open. Kathy Cornelius
Kathy Cornelius (née McKinnon, born October 27, 1932) is an American professional golfer. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Cornelius attended Florida Southern College, where she played on the men's golf team, as the school did not have a women's team at the time. She turned pro in 1953 and married golf pro Bill Cornelius the same year. She joined the LPGA Tour in 1956 and won two events in her rookie season, including the U.S. Women's Open, which was to be her only major championship. She won six LPGA Tour titles in total and had her highest money list finish in 1973, when she came eighth. She made the top-20 of the money list twelve times in total (1957–65 and 1971–73). Donna Caponi-Byrnes (born January 29, 1945) is an American LPGA Tour professional golfer. She became a member of the tour in 1965 and won four major championships and 24 LPGA Tour career events. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Amateur career Caponi was born in Detroit, Michigan. She started playing golf at the age of 5. She learned golf from her father, Harry, and won the Los Angeles Junior title in 1956. She tied for 21st as an amateur at the 1964 Hillside House Ladies' Open on the LPGA Tour. Susie Berning
Susie Maxwell Berning (born July 22, 1941) is a retired American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1964 and won four major championships and eleven LPGA Tour victories in all. She also competed under her maiden name Susie Maxwell from 1964 to 1968. She was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022. Amateur career Maxwell was born in Pasadena, California. Her family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when she was 13. Kathy Guadagnino (born March 20, 1961) is an American professional golfer. Up to 1987, she played under her maiden name of Kathy Baker. Career She was born in Albany, New York. She attended the University of Tulsa and South Florida Bible College & Theological Seminary and was the low amateur at the 1983 Nabisco Dinah Shore. In 1982, while attending Tulsa, Guadagnino won the inaugural NCAA individual title, while leading her team to both the AIAW and NCAA national titles. Janet Anderson (born March 10, 1956) is an American professional golfer. Anderson was born in West Sunbury, Pennsylvania, United States. She attended Slippery Rock Teacher's College. Her rookie year on the LPGA Tour was 1978. Sandra Palmer (born March 10, 1943) is an American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1964 and won 19 LPGA Tour events, including two major championships, during her career. Amateur career Palmer was born in Fort Worth, Texas, but grew up (and first played golf) in Bangor, Maine. She attended North Texas State University where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen.
