2018 Super League Of Malawi
The 2018 Super League of Malawi (known as the TNM Super League for sponsorship reasons) was the 33rd season of the Super League of Malawi, the top professional league for association football clubs in Malawi since its establishment in 1986. It started on 14 April and ended on 24 December 2018. Be Forward Wanderers FC were the defending champions of the previous season. Nyasa Big Bullets was crowned Super League champions for fourteenth time following a 3–0 win over Red Lions. Teams Sixteen teams compete in this season: the top thirteen teams from the previous season and three promoted side from the regional leagues. Karonga United (Northern Regional Football League), Nchalo United (Southern Regional Football League), and TN Stars (Central Regional Football League) entered as the three promoted teams, instead of the three relegated teams from previous season, Wizards, Blantyre United and Chitipa United. Super League of Malawi, also known as the TNM Super League for sponsorship reasons, is the top football division in Malawi. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Malawi Regional Football Leagues. Malawian mobile telecommunications company TNM sponsors the league with K65 million annually. History It was created in 1986 and was first sponsored by Gillet Nacet. It was composed of eight teams: five teams from Blantyre and Districts Football League (BDFL) and three teams from Lilongwe and Districts Football League (LDFL). Karonga is a township in the Karonga District in Northern Region of Malawi. Located on the western shore of Lake Nyasa, it was established as a slaving centre sometime before 1877. As of 2018 estimates, Karonga has a population of 61,609. Moyale Barracks Football Club is a Malawian professional football club based in Mzuzu, currently playing in the TNM Super League, the top division of Malawian football. The club is a military outfit named after Moyale Barracks of the MDF. Moyale is a place and barracks in Kenya where Malawi Soldiers used as a transit camp during World War II. Blue Eagles Football Club is a Malawian football (soccer) club based in Lilongwe that currently plays in the TNM Super League, the top division of Malawian football. History Blue Eagles FC was founded in 1988 and is sponsored by the Malawi Police Service as tool to bring interaction between the community they serve and them. Kamuzu Barracks Football Club are a Malawian football (soccer) club based in Lilongwe and currently playing in the TNM Super League, the top division of Malawian football. Blantyre United Football Club was a Malawian football (soccer) club based in Blantyre founded in 2008 and dissolved in 2018. History The club was founded in 2008 as a reserve side for Escom United. In 2010, after won Southern Regional Football League and promoted to TNM Super League, was renamed Blantyre United. In the 2012–13 season, the Blantyre-based side finished 3rd, their best ever performance, but in the next season struggled to avoid relegation finishing 12th and relegated at the end of the 2014 season.
