2018 Stockholm Regional Election
Stockholm County or Region Stockholm held a Regional councils of Sweden, regional council 2018 Swedish regional elections, election on 9 September 2018 on the same day as the 2018 Swedish general election, general and municipal elections. Results There were 149 seats, the same number as in 2014. The Swedish Social Democratic Party, Social Democrats supplanted the Moderate Party, Moderates as the largest party. However, after protracted negotiations, a majority Blue-Green government was formed between the Alliance parties and the Green Party. Previously, the Alliance parties had a majority since the 2014 regional elections, but losses to the Sweden Democrats necessitated the formation of a cross-bloc coalition with the Greens to gather a governing majority, as the Alliance parties wished to avoid relying on the Sweden Democrats. Stockholm County
Stockholm County ( sv, Stockholms län, link=no ) is a county or '' län'' (in Swedish) on the Baltic Sea coast of Sweden. It borders Uppsala County and Södermanland County. It also borders Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. The city of Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. Stockholm County is divided by the historic provinces of Uppland ( Roslagen) and Södermanland (Södertörn). Botkyrka Municipality
Botkyrka Municipality ( ) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden, not far from the capital Stockholm. Its seat is located in the town of Tumba. In 1971 ''Grödinge'' was merged with Botkyrka and in 1974 ''Salem'' was added. The Salem part was split off again in 1983, and a new Salem Municipality was formed. Botkyrka has an estimated population of 91,925. History The municipality is named after Saint Botvid, a Christian missionary during the 12th century. Saint Botvid is shown on the seal and coat of arms of Botkyrka Municipality, where he carries an axe and a fish. Sollentuna Municipality
Sollentuna Municipality ( ) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east-central Sweden, north of Stockholm. Its seat of local government is located in Tureberg, which is a part of Sollentuna urban area. Geography Sollentuna borders the municipalities of Solna, Sundbyberg, Stockholm, Järfälla, Upplands Väsby, Täby and Danderyd in clockwise order starting to the south. Sigtuna Municipality
Sigtuna Municipality (''Sigtuna kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Märsta, approximately north of the Swedish capital, Stockholm. The municipality is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm. The municipality consists of several former local government units and was formed in 1971. It got its name from the small, but very old, ''City of Sigtuna'', but the seat was placed in the larger modern town of Märsta. Salem Municipality
Salem Municipality (''Salems kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. The name traces its origins from ''Slæm'' in the 13th century, but was changed to Salem in the 17th century, inspired by the Biblical name of Jerusalem. Its seat is located in Salem. History Like the rest of the areas around Lake Mälaren, Salem has a significant amount of ancient remains, as far back as the Stone Age. The church of Salem traces its foundation to the 12th century. Just like its eastern municipal neighbour Botkyrka, Salem traces its history back to the legendary Saint Botvid, who lived in the area sometime between 1050-1120. Nynäshamn Municipality (''Nynäshamns kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Nynäshamn. Nykvarn Municipality
Nykvarn Municipality (''Nykvarns kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Nykvarn. Nykvarn is a young municipality, and is the result of the splitting of Södertälje Municipality in 1999. Nykvarn can be regarded as a totally new municipality, because there was never before an entity with that territory or that name. The municipality has a significant population increase in the summer thanks to tourism. Nykvarn is located between the two cities Södertälje and Strängnäs, and many citizens of Nykvarn work in either. Archeological finds show the area to have been inhabited for about 5,000 years, similar to its neighbouring municipalities around Lake Mälaren. Norrtälje Municipality
Norrtälje Municipality (''Norrtälje kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Norrtälje. It is the largest and northernmost municipality of Stockholm County and was created in 1971 through the amalgamation of several former municipalities. Lidingö Municipality
Lidingö Municipality (''Lidingö kommun'' semi-officially named as ''Lidingö stad'') is a municipality east of Stockholm in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located on the island of Lidingö. The municipality is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm. It is chiefly located on the island Lidingö, but also incorporates a few smaller islands in the surroundings, most notably the Fjäderholmarna islands within the Stockholm archipelago. Järfälla Municipality
Järfälla Municipality ( sv, Järfälla kommun) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden, and is considered a suburb of Stockholm. Its seat is located in Jakobsberg, part of the Stockholm urban area. Järfälla has not been amalgamated with other municipalities in the two local government reforms carried out during the 20th century. The Stäket area in the north was, however, added in 1952.
