2018 Colombian Census
The 2018 Colombian Census was the 18th population census in Colombia, and the 7th to include the counting of households and dwelling units. It was developed by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) of the Republic of Colombia, whose guidelines and rules were established by Decree 1899 of November 22, 2017. Background and execution Initially, the plan was to have several phases for the census: e-Census (virtual) from January 9 to March 8, 2018, and face-to-face visits to homes, which began in April and ended on June 30, 2018. However, due to technical difficulties with the census' virtual platform, the virtual phase was extended until April 12. In total, 5,048,492 people were counted online, and the face-to-face home visits began on April 18. National Administrative Department Of Statistics
The National Administrative Department of Statistics (), commonly referred to as DANE, is the Colombian Administrative Department responsible for the planning, compilation, analysis and dissemination of the official statistics of Colombia. DANE is responsible for conducting the National Population and Housing census every ten years, among several other studies. DANE offers more than 100 statistical operations on industrial, economic, agricultural, population and quality of life aspects aimed at supporting decision-making in the country. Caracol Radio (''Cadena Radial Colombiana'', "Colombian Radio Network") is one of the main radio networks in Colombia. Founded in Medellín in 1948 when ''La Voz de Antioquia'' station acquired the 50% of ''Emisoras Nuevo Mundo'', based in Bogotá. Ituango Dam
The Ituango Dam, also referred to as the Pescadero-Ituango Dam or Hidroituango, is an embankment dam currently under construction on the Cauca River near Ituango in Antioquia Department, Colombia. The primary purpose of the project is hydroelectric power generation, and its power plant will have an installed capacity of if completed. Preliminary construction on the dam began in September 2011 and the power plant was expected to begin operations in late 2018, but will not after heavy rainfall and landslides in April/May 2018 blocked the river's diversion tunnel, threatening a breach of the dam. If completed, it will be the largest power station in Colombia. Background The dam's feasibility study was completed in 1983, but the project was shelved in the 1990s due to an economic crisis. Catatumbo Campaign
The Catatumbo campaign has been an ongoing period of strategic violence between militia faction groups in the Catatumbo region of Colombia and Venezuela since January 2018. It is an extension of the war on drugs and developed after the Colombian peace process of 2016. The existence of the war was officially announced in August 2019 after a Human Rights Watch (HRW) investigation. Colombian media reports that the war has directly affected an estimated 145,000 people, with the HRW estimating this at 300,000.
