2018 British Academy Television Craft Awards
The 19th Annual British Academy Television Craft Awards are presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and was held on 22 April 2018. For the sixth consecutive year, Stephen Mangan was the ceremony's host. Stephen James Mangan (born 16 May 1968) is an English actor, comedian, presenter and writer. Reeson Wayne "Reece" Shearsmith (born 27 August 1969) is an English actor, writer and comedian. Steven Knight (born 1 April 1959) is a British screenwriter, film director and film producer. ''Black Mirror'' is a British anthology television series created by Charlie Brooker. Individual episodes explore a diversity of genres, but most are set in near-future dystopias with science fiction technology—a type of speculative fiction. The series is based on ''The Twilight Zone'' and uses technology to comment on contemporary social issues. "Hang the DJ" is the fourth episode of the fourth series of the British anthology series '' Black Mirror''. It was written by series creator Charlie Brooker and directed by Tim Van Patten. The episode first aired on Netflix, along with the rest of series four, on 29 December 2017. It follows Amy ( Georgina Campbell) and Frank ( Joe Cole), who are matched into relationships for fixed lengths of time by an algorithm that eventually determines their life-long partner. The episode was inspired by the streaming service Spotify, as Brooker considered a system which gives people "playlists" of relationships. The production designer Joel Collins's visit to an expensive holiday area became the basis for the setting, while the simulation ending and app display had to be simplified and reworked to avoid audience confusion.
