2017 Speedway Grand Prix Of Latvia
The 2017 Rietumu Bank Latvian FIM Speedway Grand Prix was the third race of the 2017 Speedway Grand Prix season. It took place on May 27 at the Latvijas Spīdveja Centrs in Daugavpils, Latvia. Riders First reserve Peter Kildemand replaced Nicki Pedersen, who was injured and not fit to race. The Speedway Grand Prix Commission also nominated Maksims Bogdanovs as the wild card, and Kjasts Puodžuks and Jevgeņijs Kostigovs both as Track Reserves. Results The Grand Prix was won by Poland's Piotr Pawlicki Jr., who beat compatriots Patryk Dudek and Maciej Janowski and Australia's Jason Doyle in the final. It was the first Grand Prix win of Pawlicki Jr.'s career, and the first time in Grand Prix history that three riders from the same nation occupied the first three places on the podium. Daugavpils (see also other names) is a state city in southeastern Latvia, located on the banks of the Daugava River, from which the city derives its name. Emil Damirovich Sayfutdinov (; born 26 October 1989) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Russia. He is a member of the Russia national speedway team. He is a three times World team champion, twice World Junior champion and a two-time winner of the European Championships in 2014 and 2015. Career history Sayfutdinov gained his speedway licence in 2005, just before his 16th birthday. He started his career in the Russian league with Mega-Lada Togliatti and won the Russian Champion title. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Nick Škorja (born 28 July 1998) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider. Career Škorja appeared twice as a track reserve in the 2016 Speedway Grand Prix and once at the 2017 Speedway Grand Prix and 2018 Speedway Grand Prix. He has finished runner-up in the Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship in 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2022. He reached the finals of both the 2018 Speedway Under-21 World Championship and 2019 Speedway Under-21 World Championship. In 2019 he was selected for the Slovenian team for the 2019 Speedway of Nations. Antonio Lindbäck (born 5 May 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden, who competed in the Speedway World Championship and was a member of the Swedish team who won the Speedway World Cup in 2004 and 2015. He earned 17 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Gregory Alan Hancock (born June 3, 1970, in Whittier, California) is a former professional motorcycle speedway rider from the United States. As of 2023, he was one of only six riders to have won the individual World Championship four or more times. Niels Kristian Trochmann Iversen (, born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark) is an international motorcycle speedway rider. He is a seven times national champion of Denmark and was part of the Danish teams that won the Speedway World Cup in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014.
