2017 Philippines Football League
The 2017 Philippines Football League was the inaugural season of the Philippines Football League (PFL), the professional football league of the Philippines. The league was officially launched on April 21, 2017, at Shangri-La at the Fort in Taguig, while the first match of the season was played on May 6. The PFL replaced the Metro Manila-based United Football League (UFL), which served as the country's ''de facto'' top-level football league from 2009 to 2016. The league was made up of 8 clubs: 6 from the UFL ( Ceres, Global, JP Voltes, Kaya, Loyola Meralco Sparks, and Stallion) and 2 expansion teams ( Davao Aguilas and Ilocos United). Each club played the others four times (a home-and-away quadruple round-robin format), twice at their home ground and twice at that of their opponents', for 28 games. Philippines Football League
The Philippines Football League (PFL) is a men's professional association football, football league in the Philippines. Sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and organized by Liga Futbol Inc., it is the country's Football in the Philippines, primary football competition. The 2024–25 Philippines Football League, 2024–25 season was contested by 10 clubs from September 28, 2024 to April 13, 2025. The league does not have a system of promotion and relegation. All PFL clubs also take part in the Copa Paulino Alcantara, the annual domestic cup competition. Founded in 2017, the PFL supplanted the Metro Manila-based United Football League (Philippines), United Football League (UFL), which was the ''de facto'' top-tier league in the country from 2009 to 2016. Tagum, officially the City of Tagum (; ), is a Cities of the Philippines#Legal classification, component city and capital of the Davao del Norte, Philippines. Edwin B. Gastanes (December 21, 1958 – December 24, 2024) was a Filipino lawyer and sports administrator who was general secretary of the Philippine Olympic Committee from 2019 to 2023. He was also the secretary general of the Philippine Football Federation from 2013 to 2023. Early life and education Gastanes was born on December 21, 1958. He attended the Manuel L. Quezon University where he took his pre-law degree in 1981. He obtained his bachelor of laws degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 1986 and passed the bar examination the following year. Panaad Stadium
The Panaad Stadium (), also sometimes spelled as Pana-ad, named after the park where the stadium is situated in, is a multi-purpose stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod, Philippines. Panaad hosted various international sporting events particularly football when Bacolod co-hosted the 2005 Southeast Asian Games and the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup qualification against Mongolia.
