2017 London Sevens
The 2017 London Sevens was the tenth and final event of the 2016–17 World Rugby Sevens Series and the seventeenth edition of the London Sevens. The tournament was held over the weekend of 20–21 May 2017 at Twickenham in London. This was the first tournament in the history of the series with all semifinalists from the Northern Hemisphere, as Scotland, England, Canada, and the United States took out the top four placings. Scotland won the tournament, beating England 12–7 in the final. The USA's Perry Baker was the leading try scorer, notching eight tries over the weekend. Format The teams were drawn into four pools of four teams each. Each team played all the others in their pool once. The top two teams from each pool advanced to the Cup quarter finals. The bottom two teams from each group advanced to the Challenge Trophy quarter finals. The 2016–17 World Rugby Sevens Series, known for sponsorship reasons as the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, was the 18th annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national rugby sevens teams. 2018 London Sevens
The 2018 London Sevens was the penultimate event of the 2017–18 World Rugby Sevens Series and the eighteenth edition of the London Sevens. The tournament was held at Twickenham Stadium, London on 2–3 June 2018. Fiji won the tournament by defeating South Africa 21–17 in the final. However it was Ireland who stole the show, finishing in third place in their first World Series tournament since 2004. Ireland thus became the first invitational side to reach the semi-finals and the podium of a World Rugby Sevens Series event. London Sevens
The London Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament held at Twickenham Stadium in London. It is part of the World Rugby Sevens Series. London was added to the World Series for the first time in 2001. For many years the London Sevens was the last tournament of each season but the Paris Sevens became the last stop on the calendar in 2018. The current titleholder of the London Sevens are Australia, who beat New Zealand in the 2022 final. The London Sevens is one of the more popular stops on the World Series. The 2011 London Sevens set a single-day attendance record of over 54,000 fans, surpassing the attendance record set by the Dubai Sevens. Perry Baker (born June 29, 1986) is an American rugby sevens player for the United States national rugby sevens team. With over 230 tries, Baker currently ranks first among Americans and third among all players in career tries scored in the World Series. Baker has established himself as one of the best rugby sevens players in the world. In the 2015–16 World Series, Baker ranked second with 48 tries scored and was one of seven players named to the World Series Dream Team. In the 2016–17 World Series, Baker ranked first with 57 tries scored, was again named to the World Series Dream Team, and won the 2017 and 2018 World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year award.
