2016–17 Providence Friars Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Providence Friars men's basketball team represented Providence College in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Friars, led by sixth-year head coach Ed Cooley, played their home games at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 20–13, 10–8 in Big East play to finish in a four-way tie for third place. As the No. 3 seed in the Big East tournament, they lost in the quarterfinals to Creighton. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 11 seed where they lost to USC in the First Four. Ed Cooley
Ed Cooley (born September 10, 1969) is an American college basketball coach and currently the head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball program. Cooley held the same position at Providence College from 2011 to 2023, and Fairfield University from 2006 to 2011. In 2022, he received national honors as the Naismith College Coach of the Year. Additionally, he received the inaugural 2010 Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year Award. Early years Cooley was born on September 10, 1969, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Jane Cooley and Edward Smith. He was one of nine children by his mother in a family on welfare, living in the low-income South Providence neighborhood. However, he would later be taken in by neighbors Gloria and Eddie Searight, who provided Cooley with meals and a place to sleep. Ben Bentil
Benjamin Bentil (born March 29, 1995) is a Ghanaian professional basketball player for ASVEL Basket, LDLC ASVEL of the French LNB Élite and the EuroLeague. He played two seasons of college basketball for Providence Friars men's basketball, Providence before being drafted 51st overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2016 NBA draft. Early life Bentil was sent to the United States from Ghana when he was 15 and Bentil's athletic prowess earned him a scholarship to the Haverford School in Haverford, Pennsylvania before leaving for St. Andrew's School (Delaware), St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Delaware. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers men's basketball team is the men's basketball team that represents Western Kentucky University (WKU) in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Hilltoppers currently compete in Conference USA. The team's most recent appearance in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was in 2024. LeMoyne Dolphins
The Le Moyne Dolphins are the athletic teams that represent Le Moyne College, located in DeWitt, New York, in NCAA Division I intercollegiate sporting competitions. The Dolphins compete as members of Northeast Conference (NEC). Le Moyne had been a member of the NCAA Division II Northeast-10 Conference since 1996. Temple Hills is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Kristofer Michael Dunn (born March 18, 1994) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
