2016–17 NK Maribor Season
The 2016–17 season was Maribor's 57th season of football, and their 26th consecutive season in the Slovenian PrvaLiga, Slovenian top division, since the league establishment in 1991 with Maribor as one of the league's founding members. The team participated in the Slovenian PrvaLiga, Slovenian Football Cup, and UEFA Europa League. The season covers the period from 1 June 2016 to 31 May 2017. Darko Milanič
Darko Milanič (born 18 December 1967) is a Slovenian professional Manager (association football), football manager and former Football player, player. As a player, Milanič represented both Yugoslavia national football team, Yugoslavia and Slovenia national football team, Slovenia at international level. He also Captain (association football), captained Slovenia at UEFA Euro 2000. Club career Born in Izola, Milanič began his football career with local side NK Izola. In the 1986–87 season, he joined FK Partizan, Partizan. During his time at Partizan, he won the Yugoslav First League and the Yugoslav Cup twice. After the 1992–93 season, Milanič moved to the Austrian side SK Sturm Graz, Sturm Graz, where he played for eight seasons and won eight trophies, including two Austrian Bundesliga titles, three Austrian Cups and three Austrian Supercups. Football Club Koper, commonly referred to as FC Koper or simply Koper, is a Slovenian football club based in Koper that competes in the Slovenian First League, the top flight of Slovenian football. Wilson Aparecido Xavier Júnior (born 15 March 1984), commonly known as Juninho, is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Ihan. Biography Born in Arapongas, Paraná, Juninho started his career at Londrina Junior Team, the youth team of Londrina (they later became two separate entities). Damir Skomina (born 5 August 1976) is a Slovenian former UEFA Elite category football referee. He is currently working as analyst of referee decisions on Croatian radiotelevision. Refereeing career Skomina was the fourth referee at several UEFA Euro 2008 matches. He refereed the quarter-final match of the football tournament at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Skomina refereed the second leg of the 2011–12 UEFA Champions League round of 16 match between Arsenal and Milan. Blaž Vrhovec (born 20 February 1992) is a Slovenian retired footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Vrhovec made his debut in European competitions for Celje on 5 July 2012, in the UEFA Europa League first preliminary round match against Dacia Chişinău. He scored his first goal in the Slovenian top division on 12 August 2012 against Mura 05. On 23 March 2016, he made his debut for the Slovenia national football team against Macedonia. In June 2016, Vrhovec signed a three-year contract with Maribor. Nogometni klub Rudar Velenje (), commonly referred to as NK Rudar Velenje or simply Rudar Velenje, is a Slovenian football club from Velenje which competes in the Slovenian Second League, the second tier of the Slovenian football league system. Šime Gregov (born 8 July 1989) is a Croatian footballer who currently plays for Italian club Varesina Calcio. Club career Gregov started his professional career with local Zadar in 2007. He later transferred to Hrvatski Dragovoljac, where he would stay for three years. In the 2012-13 season Gregov and Hrvatski Dragovoljac finished first and were promoted to the 1. HNL.
