The 2016–17 EFL League One (referred to as the Sky Bet League One for sponsorship reasons) was the 13th season of the Football League One under its current title and the 24th season under its current league division format. EFL League One
The English Football League One, known as Sky Bet League One for sponsorship reasons, or simply League One, is a professional association football league in England. EFL League One is the second-highest division of the English Football League and the third tier overall in the English football league system, after the Premier League and the EFL Championship. It is contested by 24 clubs. Introduced in the 2004–05 English football season as Football League One, it is a rebrand of the former Football League Second Division. Burton Albion currently hold the longest tenure in the division following relegation from the Championship at the end of the 2017–18 season. The 2016–17 EFL Championship (referred to as the Sky Bet Championship for sponsorship reasons) was the first season of the EFL Championship under its current name, and the twenty-fifth season under its current league structure. Newcastle United were crowned the champions and were promoted to Premier League after just one season in the Championship. Brighton & Hove Albion, alongside Huddersfield Town, both achieved Premier League promotions, via the second automatic promotion place and play-off route respectively, Brighton and Huddersfield Town's first ever since the Premier League formed in 1992. Mark Stephen Howard (born 21 September 1986) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for club Wrexham. Born in Southwark, London, Howard was part of Arsenal's youth team, but having failed to make the step up to the senior squad he departed for Cardiff City. He moved to Scotland, with spells at St Mirren and Aberdeen, before moving back to England to play for Blackpool, Sheffield United (for whom he holds the club's consecutive clean-sheet record of eight games) and Bolton Wanderers.
