2016–17 Belgian First Amateur Division
The 2016–17 Belgian First Amateur Division is the inaugural season of the newly created division at the third-tier football league in Belgium, as it was established in 2016. The fixtures were announced on 23 June 2016. Participating teams For the inaugural season the following teams will participate: * The bottom eight teams from the 2015–16 Belgian Second Division: Dessel Sport, Seraing United, Virton, ASV Geel, Deinze, Patro Eisden Maasmechelen, Heist and Coxyde * WS Brussels who were refused a Belgian professional football license and were therefore relegated to the Belgian First Amateur Division in spite of becoming champions in the 2015–16 Belgian Second Division. The Belgian National Division 1, commonly referred to as simply Eerste Nationale (in Dutch) or Nationale 1 (in French) is a semi-professional and the third-highest division in the Belgian football league system, one level below the Belgian First Division B. Belgian Professional Football License
The Belgian professional football license is a license that any team qualified to play in the professional divisions (Belgian First Division A and Belgian First Division B) must have obtained. If a qualified team did not obtain the license, it is relegated to the Belgian First Amateur Division. A similar license is given to clubs in the Belgian First Amateur Division, but it has less requirements. Royal Football Club Seraing
RFC Seraing is a Belgian association football club based in Seraing in the province of Liège. They play their home games at the Stade du Pairay. History The club was founded in the early 20th century as ''RFC Bressoux'', registered with the Belgian FA under matricule 23, but renamed in 1992 to ''Royale Union Liégeoise'' or ''RUL'' after a merger. Upon the default of R.F.C. Seraing in 1996, the club again renamed itself to Seraing RUL and started playing at the Stade du Pairay where the former RFC Seraing played until its default. The Kingdom of Belgium is divided into three regions. Two of these regions, Flanders and Wallonia, are each subdivided into five provinces. 2017–18 Belgian First Division B
The 2017–18 season of the Belgian First Division B began in August 2017 and ended in April 2018. It was the second season of the First Division B following a change in league format from the old Belgian Second Division. The fixtures were announced near the end of June 2017. Cercle Brugge won the title and promotion on 10 March 2018. Although Tubize lost the relegation play-offs and therefore would have been relegated, they were saved as Lierse went bankrupt. Belgian Second Division
The Belgian Second Division (known as the Proximus League for sponsorship reasons) was the second-highest division in the Belgian football league system, one level below the Belgian Pro League. It was founded by the Royal Belgian Football Association in 1909 and folded in 2016, when it was replaced by the Belgian First Division B. History The second division was created in 1909 and was known as the Promotion nl, bevordering at the time. From 1923 on there were two leagues in that division (called Promotion A and Promotion B). In 1926, the system changed, with only one league of 14 clubs at the second-highest level now called Division I. The 2015–16 season of the Belgian Second Division (also known as Proximus League for sponsorship reasons) began on 8 August 2015 and ended in April 2016. Structural changes This season was the last under the name Second Division. Starting from 2016-17 the league is known as ''First Division B'' as a result of reforms in the Belgian league system. The champions were promoted and 9 teams relegated to the third division named ''Amateur First Division'' or ''Amateur Superleague'', while no team was promoted from the lower division.
