2016 Major League Soccer Season
The 2016 Major League Soccer season featured 20 total clubs (17 based in the United States, 3 based in Canada). The regular season began on March 6 and ended on October 23. The playoffs began on October 26 and ended on December 10. The defending MLS Cup champions were the Portland Timbers, while the New York Red Bulls were the defending Supporters' Shield winners. FC Dallas won the Supporter's Shield for the first time, and the Seattle Sounders FC won their first MLS Cup in their history after defeating Toronto FC 5–4 in a penalty kick shootout, after playing to a 0–0 result after regulation and added extra time. 2016 United Women's Soccer Season
The 2016 United Women's Soccer season is the 22nd season of pro-am women's soccer in the United States, and the 1st season of the new UWS league. The regular season began on May 14 and ended on July 23. The league was announced with eight teams in the northeastern United States and eastern Canada in December after the USL W-League (1995–2015), USL W-League had folded a few months previously. Five teams in a western division were added in January before the Canadian Soccer Association refused entry of two Quebec clubs into UWS, leaving the league at 11 teams for its inaugural season. Carson is a city in the South Bay (Los Angeles County), South Bay and the Los Angeles Harbor Region, Harbor regions of Los Angeles County, California, located south of downtown Los Angeles and approximately away from Los Angeles International Airport. The complex consists of the 27,000-seat Dignity Health Sports Park soccer stadium, the Dignity Health Sports Park tennis stadium, a track-and-field facility, and the VELO Sports Center velodrome. Jón Guðni Fjóluson (born 10 April 1989) is an Icelandic former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Steven Mitchell Birnbaum (born January 23, 1991) is an American former professional soccer player who is currently the sporting director for DC Power FC in the USL Super League. Michael Orozco Fiscal (born February 7, 1986) is a retired American professional soccer player who played as a center-back. Early life Orozco grew up in Anaheim, California. His parents are originally from Mexico, and Michael joined the youth program of Mexican Primera A team San Luis in 2002.
