2016 Northern Pride RLFC Season
2016 was the ninth competitive season for the Cairns based Sea Swift Northern Pride Rugby League Football Club. They were one of 14 clubs that played in the twenty-first season of Queensland's top rugby league competition, QRL's Intrust Super Cup, with each team playing 12 home games and 11 away games over 25 weeks between March and August. Five experienced players retired at the end of the 2015 season: Alex Starmer, Semi Tadulala and Sam Obst along with co-captains Brett Anderson and Jason Roos retired, and Hezron Murgha retired from the Cowboys and signed with the Blackhawks. Between them they had played almost 700 QCup games. The new squad for 2016 was much younger, with an average age of 21, the youngest squad the Pride ever had. The new captain was Ryan Ghietti, who had represented Italy at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, had played 96 QCup games, and had joined the Pride from Redcliffe Dolphins in 2011. Barlow Park is a multi-sports facility and stadium in Parramatta Park, Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Redcliffe Dolphins
Redcliffe Dolphins are a semi-professional rugby league club based in Redcliffe, Queensland, Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia. Founded in 1947, they were accepted into the Brisbane Rugby League premiership (rugby league competition), Brisbane Rugby League (BRL) premiership competition in 1960, and since 1996 have played in the Queensland Cup. The Redcliffe Dolphins thrived in the BRL. However, the 1988 admission of the Brisbane Broncos team in the New South Wales Rugby League competition caused the decline of the BRL. Atherton Tablelands
The Atherton Tableland is a fertile plateau, which is part of the Great Dividing Range in Queensland, Australia. It has very deep, rich basaltic soils and the main industry is agriculture. Burleigh Bears
The Burleigh Bears are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Gold Coast, Australia. They compete in Queensland's top rugby league competition, the Queensland Cup. Terence Michael Mackenroth (16 July 1949 – 30 April 2018) was an Australian politician from Queensland, who was a member of the Labor Party. Jason Demetriou () (born 13 January 1976) is an Australian professional rugby league coach who is the head coach of , former head coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the NRL and a former professional player. Predominantly a , Demetriou spent all of his 13-year playing career in England, playing for six clubs and for internationally. Illawarra RLFC
The Illawarra Rugby League Football Club was an Australian rugby league football club based in Illawarra formed in 2012. Originally known as the Illawarra Cutters, they became known as the Illawarra RLFC before the 2017 Intrust Super Premiership NSW. They won their first and only premiership title with the 2016 against Mount Pritchard Mounties at Parramatta Stadium. This was the final game ever played at this venue. The NSW Cup, currently known as the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a rugby league competition for clubs in New South Wales. The competition has a history dating back to the NSWRFL's origins in 1908, starting off as a reserve grade competition, and is now the premier open age competition in the state.
